First, thanks for checking out this thread. Now, my personality test results (from sometimes varying tests) have been ENTJ, INTJ, INFJ, INTP and ISTJ. I don't suspect that my preferences are changing, and I'm operating under the assumption that types are legit, so I'd like your help in figuring out my type. Like a patient in a doctor's office, I don't know what you need to know for a prognosis, so this will be long-winded.

A typical day starts off with coffee, then going over my to-do list. Sometimes I make the list up or add entries in that moment, rather than the night before. I like to add some easy tasks to the list, so I have more to cross out as the day progresses.

Next comes 1 or 2 hours of nothing productive. I found an emulator, so I can play Warcraft 2, and this is what I've been doing lately. The game's pretty slow compared to the new stuff out there, but I like the challenge.

Next it's time for work. I'm a TA in the math and statistics department. I feel pretty lucky, since I'm not a PhD student, but I get support from the department. I used to be a grader, but now I'm a tutor at the tutoring center. Sometimes there's variety, but most of the time I'm helping the regular. After an hour or so, the regular and I are both tired. I get tired of telling him how to solve the problems or correcting his mistakes, and he just gets tired from the effort. The next 10 or 15 minutes is spent talking with a friend, usually about the stock market, since we both like to trade.

Next up there's more video games, followed by an hour of Exam P practice problems. The Exam P (P = Probability) is one of the several exams needed to become an actuary. I feel pretty confident going into this one, since the material is all review for me. I plan on passing the next exam, Exam FM (FM = financial mathematics) before the end of the year. After that, I'll use my free time in my last semester to network and look for a job. I'd like a job on track to be an actuary or a job as a financial analyst, since investing has been a hobby of mine for sometime. Yes, I'll have free time since I finished all my research in the Summer I semester.

After that, there's a swimming class at the rec center, or Toastmaster's. Friday through Sunday, there's nothing so probably more video games or internet searches.

Following dinner, these days I'm reading a book on Differential Equations. I never took the course as an undergrad, so I'm reading this to round out my math background.

...And that's a typical day. Now, some other tidbits I think you'll find useful:

1) I'm usually courteous to strangers, but when I'm comfortable around people, I can vent and snap at people.
2) My feelings are complicated. I've cried while watching movies, but when something happens to me personally, I can be absolutely stoic. For instance, I did not feel anything at my grandfather's funeral, and I was 5 years old at the time.
3) I find more in common with Chinese graduate students than US citizens. I can speak a little Mandarin, but there is still a language barrier. I have no idea why this is so.
4) I don't know if I'm logical or if I fell in love with logic. I read Paul Teller's Logic Primer/ and there has been no going back. I swear this book changed my life, and it's a very easy read with solutions for exercises from the first 2 parts.
5) I was exposed to pornography at an early age. Porn and masturbation has been a compulsion for most of my life. I'm making changes and my wife has been very supportive.
6) I get lost in thought all the time. Most of the day I'm not paying attention to what I'm doing.
7) In emergency situations, I am very clear-headed. I've gotten a gas generator to start, after the power went out, and I have no background in troubleshooting generators. I also help my wife with her iphone when there's a black screen, but I wouldn't really consider that an emergency. Also, in real emergencies, I don't tolerate BS.

...I think that's more than enough.

Please let me know what type you think I have and explain your reasoning. I'll gladly answer any questions you have if that'll clear up anything.

Hmm, have you looked into the enneagram at all yet? So far, I'd go with either ISTJ, ISTP, or INTJ.... but it's hard to tell until I see you in "action" more on the forum... You do seem kind of balanced regardless of what your type is from this at least.

Oops, I forgot one more thing:

8) Despite my habitual planning, I rarely follow my plans exactly. Usually, this is because I missed some vital piece of information. This also drives other people nuts once I tell them my plan, then do something else.

Also thanks for commenting Xann. I haven't looked into the enneagram. Being balanced is what's making this hard.

The first half of your post made me think xSxx, possibly SJ. You were talking about what is around you, and it seems to lean towards you being a thinking type too. So xSTx

2) introverted/subjective feeling? seems like you dont value Fe very much for some reason.
4) You are definitely a Thinking type! Maybe even T dominant.
6) Introvert maybe
7) xTxx
the rest doesnt tell me anything.

My guess is ISTx, maybe ISTP.

Wolfnara, doesn't 6) contradict the xSxx?

I can describe the details of a day very well, because I have exceptionally good episodic memory. I don't have photographic memory, and many times particular details like dates, names and numbers escape me.

Also, I thought xSxx were more hands on learners, whereas I prefer reading. Also lectures don't do much for me.

Try this:

Welcome to Personality Type!

Also, if you look at the actual Myers-Briggs Type Table- based on the 5 types that you mentioned, I would start thinking INTJ. The other 4 you mentioned are border types of INTJ.

Im not sure if point 6 alone would be enough indicate an intuitive preference. All introverts value their introverted function the most and therefore will be in their heads more often because their dom function isn't relying on external stimuli as much as an extrovert would, especially if it is unbalanced. If you are an intuitive i would say INTJ as well, but from your OP it seems more like your attention is towards things that are actually happening around you, and in my opinion it seems like objective sensing (Se) and thinking that has the most significance.

I guess SPs are more interested in hands on learning but i'm not sure. They will also use their other functions such as Ti, so their learning style doesn't necessarily involve or favour hands on activities. Any type can enjoy reading :)

Not sure but maybe this goes against Si? because introverted sensors are good at remembering details that are important to them.

I have a few questions! How is your perception of time? Do you find that time flies and you dont seem to be aware of it or do you have good timing? What are your interests and what are you motivated by? You dont have to answer all my questions but there might be something everyone can make of your answers.

I'm gonna agree with everyone and say ISTx sounds about right. I'm actually gonna lean ISTJ though.

I'll add more later; right now I'm caught up in my own video game shenanigans. Defeating 8 Pokemon trainers in 8 turns can be hard even if you're 35 levels higher.

Not necessarily. I know some N types that are extremely hands on learners. I like lectures, but if I'm learning something practical I really like the opportunity to practice it with supervision before trying on my own (hands on learning).

When I get focused, I lose all track of time. Most often this happens when playing video games, or sports, though this can happen when I'm reading something stimulating or doing math. These days I use alarms on my smart phone to keep me on track.

My interests and motivations... those aren't easy for me to list. Whatever I do list, I'm sure that something will pop in my head a few hours later. Here's a preliminary list of interests: investing, probability and statistics, video games, economics, biology, math, etc. I can keep adding things, but basically whatever fits the framework of things I know very well.

As far as motivations go, I can be very competitive. Also, I can be an overachiever. I don't dwell on the past, so I usually start another project right away. Overtime the number of completed projects add up, but there's also a fair number of uncompleted ones as well.

Ni users have the best perception of time, that is why INxJ are said to be "future focused" and good at predicting events.
The rest of your answers make you seem xxTJ to me. I'm not sure what you mean by being interested in Statistics, but Te types are more likely to use statistics while Ti users will find a logical inconsistency in them and therefore won't trust them. I think you are ISTJ:)

By statistics, I mean mathematical statistics. I have no interest in statistics reported by say, social scientists. I'm mainly interested in the theory behind the methodology.

As far as logical inconsistencies go, some people claim there are inconsistencies in the Likelihood Principle. I've heard that as an argument by Bayesian statisticians. Maintaining my GPA and passing tests are my priority now, so I haven't looked into it yet.

EDIT--

What inconsistencies were you referring to?

Also, how did you arrive upon the J preference?

My assessment as an officially typed MBTI INFJ (but not a certified practioner):
1. in comparison to me, as a strong F, you come across as T in your original post

2. your 5 results you stated in your OP evidence a pattern; that pattern being that INTJ is the centerpoint of all the other types you mentioned. In other words, those other types are most likely the areas you see that are most similar to you. All four of them share 3 letters with INTJ, but none of those other four share 3 or more with all of the other four.

3. I looked up a profile of an INTJ in an official MBTI book on leisure. That profile is the one that most matched those aspects of your OP that described leisure behaviors.

4. Your family member states INFJ. That is only one letter off from INTJ. They said the hardest letter to determine was T/F. But you state you definitely feel that you have T. Only you can know for sure. The INFJ result from a family member helps narrow it down, but with that to go off of only you can verify your best fit type. You seem to have done so, and I think you are stuck in the Introverted intuition trap (like I as an INFJ/fellow IN also fall into) of over-perceiving the possibilities with a function (N) that is open-ended towards receiving information. Making decisions is hard for us INJ types, because we usually feel (or in your case think) that we don't have enough information to be certain for a final conclusion.

In my opinion, you are an INTJ type.

Which typically comes first for you: work, or play?
Mostly work, but I try to find work I enjoy, that way I can play all the time.

Which describes you better: carefree, or intense?
Probably intense...

Which best describes your political beliefs: liberal, centrist, or conservative?
I haven't really decided. Generally I hate any politician that focuses on social issues, since I see them as irrelevant. I need to look more into economics before I take a greater political stance.

Does it bother you when people are late?
Most of the time, but if I'm unprepared or dreading the meeting, I don't care.

Which do you put more weight in: science, or faith?
Science, but I can be skeptical of that too.

Which describes you better: more warm-hearted, or cool-headed?
I don't know.

As a personality, are you more passive, active, or balanced?
I'm not really sure what you mean by these categories.

Are you generally able to forgive and forget?
In the long run yes, in the short run no.

Do you like dogs? Would you consider owning a dog as a pet?
I like animals. I prefer cats over dogs. The dog was a compromise. I picked the most quiet dog though.

How much would you enjoy hosting a big, crazy party?
It would be a nightmare.

Are Goth chicks more sexy, or more lame?
Sexier or lamer than what? Assuming you mean the average white girl, then they're sexier.

How do you feel about kids (precious, okay, revolting, indifferent to them)?
Indifferent at this time.

Could you date someone who was really quiet?
Yes.

Which of the following types of intelligence do you most value: logical/mathematical, social/interpersonal, or visual/spatial/artistic?
logical/mathematical

How shy would you say you are?
Fairly shy at first, but I'll warm up quickly thereafter.

When deciding what is right and wrong are you more emotional, logical, religious, or something else?
Logic.

Outside of work and school, how inclined are you to investigate something that interests you?
When I have free time, there's a pretty good chance.

When it comes to right and wrong, which of the following has the greatest impact on your belief system: religion, family/friends, laws, or self interest?
This sense of right or wrong is inherently different than the "right or wrong" question above. Most of the time I'd say self-int

Which word describes you better: private or social?
Depends on the situation.

When planning future activities with your significant other(s), do you generally like to take the lead?
I like her input, but I usually dominate the discussion.

Is the left or right hemisphere of your brain dominant?
I'm extremely right-handed, so I think the left side.

Do you typically speak and write in a clear, precise manner?
I'd say my writing is fairly clear. The clarity of my talking depends on how nervous or excited I am.

How often do you try new things (food, activities, music, whatever)?
I start a new project almost immediately after completing the prior project, so this really depends on how fast I'm working.

Do you mind getting really dirty working/playing outside?
Yes.

When facing a complicated situation, can you easily put yourself in another person's shoes and consequently see things from his or her point of view?
This is hard for me. I usually day dream about how I would react in certain situations. When somebody acts to the contrary, I make no attempt to wrap my head around crazy.

Do you care about other people's suffering?
If I'm feeling the pain vicariously then yes, otherwise no.

Are you annoyed by people who are super logical?
I don't like people who criticize me. How logical somebody is in their own life is none of my business.

Are you almost always on time?
Yes.

Which do you cause more of: order, or chaos?
Neither.

Would speaking in front of a large group make you nervous?
Of course.

How frequently do you drink alcohol?
Almost never.

Are you careful with your money?
Very.

Which of the following has the biggest influence on your behavior: reason/observation/empiricism/trial-and-error, tradition/faith/upbringing/heritage, or emotion/intuition/instinct?
I would guess reason, but I'm not really sure.

How important is it that your partner be willing and able to participate in meaningful philosophical conversations?
Not very important.

If you had to choose one, which would you rather have: great sex, great friends, great love, or great ideas?[/b
I'm leaning more towards great ideas. If you remove that item, then I'd say great sex.

Which is worse: being too much of a dreamer, or too cynical?
Too cynical.

What size party would you prefer to attend: a few close friends, 5 - 20 people, 20 - 100 people, or more than 100 people?
The less the merrier.

How do you feel about germs: obsessed (you bleach anything you can't trust), careful (you wash my hands and cover your sneezes), polite (you always wash up when someone's watching), or unconcerned (you don't actively lick doorknobs)?
I'm careful.

How high is your self confidence: very high, higher than average, average, or below average?
Relative to who?

How much do you procrastinate?
A little bit each day.

If someone asked what "wherefore" in the line “Wherefore art thou Romeo?” meant, what would you respond with: why, where, how, or who cares / wtf?
Where

In a conversation are you usually listening or waiting to speak?
Usually listening.

Do you ever feel socially awkward?
Many times.

Do you space out or daydream a lot?
Almost all the time.

How frequently do you go out of your way to make others feel appreciated?
With words fairly often, but with action fairly little.

Do you like to be the center of attention?
It depends.

Are you attracted to dangerous situations?
No.

Are you likely to make long, friendly conversation with strangers?
No.

Could you date someone who was really messy?
I'm married to someone messy. It's a struggle.

Do you usually blurt things out, or do you think carefully before speaking?
Blurt then self-correct.

Which of the following characters best represents your personality: Garfield (apathetic and sarcastic), Bugs Bunny (creative & versatile), Batman (quiet problem-solver), or Mickey Mouse (cheery & energetic)?
Not Garfield nor Mickey Mouse.

If a photographer approaches you on the street and asks to take your picture, do you pose for them or politely refuse?
Ignore them.

If you were going away for two weeks, when would you start packing: at least 2 days before, the day before, the same day, or not at all?
I'd have the packing in my head well ahead of time, then save the packing for the day of.

Do you pick up after yourself (always, when you have the time, no, or someone else does it)?
When I have time.

Would you be willing to adopt a child?
I need to think about this more.

Do you enjoy finding out what makes things work the way they do?
Yes.

How often are you open with your feelings?
I'm open when it serves a purpose.

Do you prefer your social plans settled and decided, or tentative?
Settled.

Are you more cheerful (have a positive outlook), meh (have ups and downs), or annoyed ("the world sucks")?
Meh.

How open are you to trying new things in bed: very (will try anything once), open (but not too crazy), hesitant, or not at all?
Open.

Do you often have a hard time thinking of things to talk about?
No.

Do you believe reason is more important than emotions in solving problems?
Yes.

In which climate zone would you prefer to live: tropical (love the heat), mediterranean (warm, but not too hot), temperate (everything in moderation), subarctic (love the cold and snow)?
Subarctic.

Could you date someone who needs a great deal of alone time?
Yes.

Do you keep a budget (of your finances)?
Yes.

Are you an intellectual (loves learning for its own sake)? Do you find learning boring?
Learning cures boredom.

Are you more talented, or hardworking?
People would say I'm more talented.

Can you name five living poets and the title of one book by each? Poets, but not titles? Five Poets, even if dead?
No. With few exceptions, if somebody had something important to say, they should just plainly say it.

Which of the following if your greatest motivation in life thus far: love, wealth, expression, or knowledge?
Wealth or knowledge. In general, I'd say power.

Do you like wild parties?
No.

Would you rather win a Nobel Prize, a Grammy/Oscar/Tony/Emmy, a Super Bowl (or other sports championship), or the lottery?
The lottery!

If your significant other put on a slow song and asked you to dance, would think it was romantic, corny, or not your kinda thing?
I'd say that's romantic.

Does silence make you uncomfortable?
