Can't figure out my type! Help?

Hello all! :)

I'm aware that I've already listed my type as 'ENFP', but a recent change in my level of self assurance has made me second guess my original attempts at typing myself. Lend me your expertise and help me figure myself out, fellow Typology Centralites? :)

In the interest of conveying complex information in as accessible a format as possible, I'll be parsing everything down into a bulleted list:

* My levels of self-esteem and social competence used to be horrific. In the past, this usually resulted in me typing overwhelmingly as an introvert because I had an extreme aversion to socializing with anyone but those I trusted most. These days I still have some self esteem issues (even though I've improved tenfold over the past few years) so this tends to impact my results whenever I take personality tests.

* I'm 23, a sociology major and currently working as an intern for a non-profit dedicated to securing affordable healthcare for individuals of all ages and income brackets in the United States. I love this internship and enjoy working together with people to achieve a common goal, but I don't like the face-to-face activism aspect. I prefer sitting in on meetings and learning about what everyone does, and how their efforts are impacting the shifting attitudes towards healthcare on a collective, national level. I'd describe myself as an activist, but I prefer acting as an analyst-strategist rather than a door to door canvasser and someone who deals directly with the uninsured (or other similarly marginalized group). This isn't because I don't like or don't feel for these people, but because I'm more interested in and competent at dealing with the systems that destroy these peoples' lives, as opposed to counseling or working with people directly.

* I love reading and thinking about politics and social justice. I follow political blogs and podcasts fanatically, and read the New York Times and NPR news every day. Political scandals and the daily lives of politicians don't really interest me, but their ideologies and the thinking processes driving their initiatives do. Being informed is very important to me, and I work hard at cultivating as objective of a political opinion as is humanly possible.

* I love philosophy. Western philosophy was emphatically "my thing" (all of my close friends knew me for how much I knew about the subject and various influential thinkers) before politics came along. I still delve into philosophy every now and then, but it's less of a hobby than it used to be.

* My day-to-day thoughts usually revolve around how I feel about something, whether I'm a moral person or not, whether I'm likable or not, wondering about how people receive me. The rest of my thoughts (still a considerable portion) are devoted to imaginative play (I write, roleplay, draw and play rpgs), daydreaming and thinking about how awesome the future is going to be. (I'm very much an optimist where the future is concerned.)

* I'm known amongst my friends for being very outspoken. (Whether this is to the point of obnoxiousness or not, they haven't yet hinted either way.)

* I used to deal with a toxic level of self-hatred. There's still a little of it lingering in my day to day life, but I've gotten a lot better.

* I like people, but I'd say that I'm slightly more curious and interested in people than I am in caring for them. (Certain people can, however, really draw out my loving, caring and hardcore F side.) I strive to accept people, and understand them as fully as possible. Understanding and getting "the big picture" is extremely important to me–– I don't understand people who focus too sharply on singular details without putting them into context, and believe that doing so limits people.

* I've been told that my level of self-awareness is somewhat low/that I can be self-centered.

* I'm always thinking about, and asking, "why". Most often I wonder why people are cruel to each other, or why reality is the way it is. (Again, daydreaming.)

* I appreciate math in theory, but I absolutely hate working with it. I'm not terrible (I was a B+ to A- math student in high school) at it, but I hate the way that it forces you to conform your thinking to a particular rigid system with very little room for error or approximation. I feel similarly about science–– but only where it incorporates math. Technology and science in the journalistic or explanatory senses, however, I'm very interested in.

* My biggest flaw (or one of them, anyways) is that I have very little self-discipline. I've only recently started becoming more patient and able to handle myself tactfully in frustrating situations.

* I'm very expressive, and have something of a knack for writing. I'm not the best, but I'm told that I'm very good at simplifying difficult concepts and putting them into accessible language.

* I'm very good at writing formally, but express myself informally. I dislike putting on airs.

* I'm quite honest and straight forward.

* Social justice is important to me. Inequality and bigotry anger me on a very personal level.

... And that's all of the relevant information I can think to add for now! Please feel free to ask questions if more information would help out the typing process! :)

Thanks in advance to all who help out.

Seems consistent with ENFP for me, but I've only known one ENFP well.

Don't worry, ... the friendly helpers at TypeC will help confuse you more.

Sounds fairly ENFP to me also but could sway towards INFP.... frequently ENFP's type as INFP's as they are some of the most (or at least some of the some are) introverted of the extraverts... or can be, maybe.

@ Owlesque: Thanks for your response. Looks like my original ENFP assumption may not have been as far off as I thought.

@ Helen of Troy: (First of all, awesome username. <3) I actually do type as INFP fairly often! I wish there was a clear way to distinguish if I'm an INFP that leans E, or an ENFP that skews a little I, but the issue's rather confusing.

INFP's are often very introverted. senza_tema is a great person to ask on this topic, i did once engage her in conversation enquiring about this I/E divide.

ENFP's in terms of function order are Ne Fi

Whereas INFP's are Fi Ne

And yes i have wondered if i am more Fi than Ne...thus INFP over ENFP but though i chose not to socialise much i'm pretty sure i am an extrovert over all.

You're welcome.

A key difference is function order, as they share the same top four functions just with the first and last pairs swapped around.

ENFP - Ne, Fi, Te, Si
INFP - Fi, Ne, Si, Te

Perhaps read into the functions and see if you can determine whether you favour Ne or Fi, or even find the one out of the four you use least and see if that helps.
