I need some help typing a long time friend who is dealing with some existential issues. I think the MBTI might help him find his place especially if the type profile resonates with him.

I think he may be some sort of INxx but I’m not sure. Please don’t let my bias change your thoughts. Here is some information. Your input is appreciated, thank you.

- he is deep and complex, has trouble slowing his mind and thinks a lot
- has a faculty with language especially written
- enjoys writing songs and poetry
- athletic but doesn’t enjoy team sports, prefers to try multiple sports instead of completely mastering one
- sometimes says insightful things that come out of left field
- scored in the 95 percentile on the critical thinking/reading section of the SAT: may point towards thinking style (maybe an NT?)
- likes philosophy and often reads
- enjoys time spent alone but always has time for others
- acts differently at school contrasted with around friends
- can seem cold and distant but is cheerful and amiable when talked to
- is modest but confident with presenting ideas or subjects known to him
- keeps people at a distance until they earn his trust
- is a good student, conscientious
- drives a motorcycle, not overly concerned for his safety
- became an organ donor as a morbid joke as soon as he got his license
- does not like to be singled out
- well liked and popular but this is not of much concern to him
- enjoys attention from the opposite sex unless they become clingy
- immediately liked by all his female teachers → charming
- men seem slower to trust him and guys his own age can be suspicious
- can be intimidating (was told he was sometimes frightening by a teacher)
- the teacher above said something like this to him: “Sometimes you frighten me. You know how to play the psychological game and you can play hardball.”
- Is insightful and great at reading people, can read body language and knows their motives at least most of the time
- sometimes puts up a front to hide his sensitivity
- people sometimes confide in him because he will listen
- enjoys debates about ideas but shies away as soon as it gets personal
- is a fan of Kurt Vonnegut, likes Zen and the art of Motorcycle Maintenance
- easily understands theories, gets bored with routine classroom learning (daydreams)
- is distrustful of big corporations, has a soft spot for the underdog/disenfranchised

Hope this helps. Feel free to ask more questions if you need more information.

He sounds like an ISTP to me, if not maybe ISFP.

INTP or ISTP. He seems pretty in touch with his Ti.
