Hi All!

So it has been a long time since i've posted. I could use some advice I have just recently moved from the East Coast to Phoenix and I was wondering if anyone else has been through the same. I moved here with 2 friends who are in a relationship which is weird but I'm getting used to it..both are EN*J's and we do things together I feel I am totally out of the loop because they talk about things that aren't interesting to me so I sit there and don't say much...so I would like to rely less on them...if that makes sense.

I guess my main question is how have you gone about meeting new people and striking up conversations with them to make friends? I have come to find out that this is the hardest thing for me and I really miss the connections with people at home. Oddly enough I enjoy going out to clubs and bars for the experience, music, and stimulation mostly but small talk is really difficult. This is an interesting challenge for me because i've never really had to before I lived in the same state my whole life and have always had the same friends...

Anyways Thanks for the advice and hello again!

Reading the post and having moved with friends, I'd guess you're in your twenties.

Best suggestion would be to join the Phoenix Jaycees. You'll meet a lot of single people in their twenties and thirties, and get to participate in group activities.

We had a young guy transfer in for work in our area. He didn't know anybody.

Suggested that, and suddenly within a month he had a whole new life. :)

It's a great organization for young men and women to mingle and do positive things within a community at the same time.

yeah that organization sounds really interesting..I was just reading about it the only problem with my current job is I work in different cities all over the country so I'm in PHX tomorrow fly out east for thanksgiving for a week and then fly to Sacramento the next for work for 2 weeks and then I maybe back for a day then I have to go somewhere else! So my job is pretty crazy and i'm trying to get a job out here in my industry but it's hard!

hmm...there's also the 20/30 club which is an organization for business men in their twenties and thirties in Phoenix. Guessing gender is sometimes difficult on a website, but if you happen to be male, that might be a good way to hook some insider help in landing a local job.

yeah i'm male so I will have to look into that as well! Thanks for the tips :) I'm down with getting out of the house and exploring the city rather than dealing with the lovebirds who are all about each other lol but I guess that is what love is about!

Well I'd guessed as much, as to gender and hope the tips help.

Oh, and by the way, "I'm down with..." is a registered ISTP TradeMark.

You owe the next ISTP you meet a beer and twenty bucks. :)

hmm...you said 10 beers and used the ISTP TM.

I think it's more likely you're a T. Speaking of B/S all day, would you rather go have a beer with an IT
Co-worker, or a customer?

hmmm neither? lol I actually enjoy my co-workers quite a bit so I would have to say them. there are a team of about 30 of us on my account that do what I do and we all get along well..mainly because if there are any disagreements on site and it gets back to our manager one of us gets fired haha. I've only gone out with the ownership, management and staff of one site and that was ok but in my head I was thinking i've been dealing with you for the past 2 weeks!

Example of my life: Just got the call today to fly to Wyoming tonight at 6pm tonight. Thought I was going to be off for the next week and half. guess not!

Here is what I wrote in What's my Type when I first joined because i've never been 100% set in stone about what type I am
_________

I would have to say that i'm somewhere between on all catagories. People tell me all the time that i'm very friendly and outgoing. For whatever reason whenever i'm out people feel the need to make small talk and chit chat with me and I don't understand why..I guess I must come off as an easily approachable peson. I don't like parties and family events. I tend to want to leave within 10 minutes of arriving LOL and usually hang out with one or two people at a time. Anymore and it can become too exhausting especially if they are very loud.

S/N : I am usually a pretty down to earth person. However more often than not especially when i'm driving or flying somehwere on a plane or if i'm alone I tend to wonder what if and my mind tends to wander. I tend to like Reality TV shows and LOST is my favorite show. I'm not a big fan of details, however I am good with managing them as it is part of my job. One thing that I do is constantly touch everything...especially when i'm in a store and sometimes I break things I'm kind of oblivious to things at times. Like last week when I was packing for a business trip I packed to left shoes

T/F: I'm a people oriented person. I went to college for Hotel Management and I love working in hotels and giving good customer service and training for a career. I'm not very good with sharing my emotions and can be rather blunt at times. I LOVE technology and always have the latest gadget or new toy so I can tinker with it.

J/P: I'm an organized person however my lifestyle is very last minute and somehwat erratic. Which I really enjoy because I never know where i'm going next until I get a flight itinerary in my email. I'm usually on time for appointments and what not. I tend to be a casual person and I don't like formal events and work places which is another reason why I enjoy working remotely.

Job:
I'm an Implementation Specialist for an IT Hospitality company and I go and install the technology and train the front desk staff on how to use the system. I really enjoy it because I meet all different people from different walks of life and I can see how other people live. I don't judge people so I can go in meeting everyone with an open mind.

If more details are required let me know! It took me a while to write this I kept on getting distracted. Thanks in advance!

I forgot to mention. I'm kind of an enigma to most people. My sister (ESFJ) says i'm nothing like the rest of the family and they're all SJ's so i'm not quite sure what that means but I think she's right. Most people can't figure me out and I kind of get a little thrill out of it.

ok, definate on the I. Which has almost nothing to do with "socializing", I think it has more to do with where we get our energy from. Lots of I's are perceived as E's, i.e. Ronald Reagan.

S/N? That one's easy. I used to find it perplexing. Take a picture of a styrofoam cup and write a description of it. N's and S's truly see differing things.

T/F? I'd look at it like this. Did you move to Phoenix to be closer to your friends who were moving away? Or were there other more practical considerations?

J/P? Looks like a P, but myself I do have a few J characteristics. Like I'm pretty flexible but generally want to know what I'm getting myself into. I get really impatient when in groups that can't make up their minds as to something to do, or somewhere to go...

In those scenarios I more often than not leave the group and go find something to do on my own. ;)

I've been in IT for a good while and do like the people aspect vs. any desire to be purely technical, sitting in some corner writing code or planning systems is not my bag. That would drive me nuts.

Sounds like you've found a cool niche.

hmm I've never thought of it like that before. Oh I already know I am an IS**

My S is clear especially after living with 2 N's for a while. They are always talking about the future and one of these days I just may blurt out something about enjoying the present. Also they talk about worldly topics that quite frankly are useless to me...I usually just stare out into outer space hahaha.

I moved across the country because PHX seems to be up and coming...I could be wrong but there is a lot more opportunity here then where I used to live. I also moved for an adventure and to live somewhere new and to prove to myself that I can be away from my family.

I must admit my job is pretty cool. I have a lot of freedom to do what I want while facilitating classes and I don't work in an office building or have to go to the same place everyday which always drove me nuts.

I say this all the time. I don't think that's enough to determine that you are a 'T'. Not to mention I like beer...

My ESFP husband does computer support as well. I thought he was an XSTP for awhile due to his interests, but when I gave him the test the only section in which he didn't land directly in the middle was on T/F. He got F, 100%.
