[MBTI General] The artisan in you...

I posted a thread here a while back, and it seems that most of you SP's don't actually consider yourselves 'artists'. The general consensus was that you admired and respected true artists, but meager endeavors of your own were not enough to consider you an 'artist' unless you did it for a living or some such.

So now I'm curious...

What artistic tendencies do you have that justify this artisan stereotype that was stamped on your foreheads?

Tell the curious NT why your soul is the soul of an artist that creates things of beauty that a scheming NT or a daydreaming NF couldn't come up with?

(Sorry to the Sj's... you seem to fall in last in the line of 'being artistic' We can start you a thread of all your artistic creations to debunk the myth later!)

I love color. I love the way that colors come alive when combined with other colors. I love to see colors in nature. It is amazing to me how the color of the sea melts away into the color of the sky but the two are not the same color. They just melt into each other.
I like to paint with watercolors or draw with colored pencils and make the flat lines of my pencil sketches appear to come alive with the colors that I've added. I like to draw flat lines onto fabric and then hand embroider the colors -- painting with needle and thread. I feel joyful and almost like a real artist when I play with the colors, deciding which color should go where, how to make a picture give the impression of life and light with the addition of color.
I also like shape and shadow and perspective, other elements that go into making flat lines on paper appear to be real objects.
Ever since I started putting effort into drawing and painting, I have looked at the world with different eyes. I look at people and I see the sparkle in their eyes. I have learned to see all people as beautiful in their own way, rather than comparing their appearance to some vague standard of beauty.
I look at landscapes or at city scenes and see perspective.
I pick just about anything to draw in a sketchbook that I keep and carry with me every day.
So... what makes me different than a scheming NT or a daydreaming NF?
Well, maybe it's that I am completely focused on the physical world around me. I look at it, smell it, touch it. And I draw it.
Other than that, I don't know if I differ very much from the NTs or NFs.

Yea, I'm not an artist but "soul of an artist" definitely applies.

I can see the beauty in the world- look at the world in rich color and detail. I try to explain to people that to be in my mind is like to be smoking pot, constantly. Food tastes the richest, colors are the brightest. Movies are the funniest. The warm breeze on a summer's day feels more amazing. And its just the constant awareness of surroundings combined with attitude about it I guess.

Lets say I'm going through a tough time, too. I'll listen to a very appropriate sad song and look out at the rain. Once I looked in my rear view mirror at night when I was crying. I was trying to fix my makeup. It was raining and the street lights shown down and a sad song played. The reflection of the lights through the raindrops on my windshield covered my face in dark flowing spots that looked like tears. Then since I was at a red light, it shone a soft red hue on my face. And it fit the mood. And this is the way I see a lot of things. In super-senses. This is just the way life is for me.

I guess I think that this is the way that an artist views the world.

I can relate! I've made that comparison myself actually.

I don't know if SPs in general are more artistic than non-SPs. I think I see the world differently from many people though. I'm constantly observing and admiring the world, framing pictures in my mind. Some days it's almost like being high. Wouldn't call it artistic necessarily but art might cause you to look at the world that way...

SPs are super good with their hands (that=artisan). Also, what everyone else said really applies to me, too; you know, about viewing the world. ;-)

I do think we need an SJ thread too, because most the SJs I know have an artisan bent (an ISTJ who knits beautiful scarves, an ESFJ who creates unique and beautiful cakes, an ISFJ who is a talented painter and songwriter/musician, just to name a few).

Sometimes I think that I "feel" certain songs more than others (although I probably don't ) Songs with good harmonies make me very content. I can't describe what I feel, but it's amazing. I also love feeling the beat of a song pulsing through my body. It's amazing to get lost in a song you really love.

As for the artist part? I'm about as artistic and creative as a doorknob.

I definitely agree. My mom, an ISFJ, is a talented interior decorator and fashion specialist. She knows what materials to use and how to use them to create the most eye-appealing result possible. Me? Even though I'm an SP and considered an 'artist' or 'artisan', I suck at these activities. But I do flourish in graphic designing

I'm not really an all-around artist but I believe I view the world through an artist's eyes. The simplest things make me happy: a cat's jewel-like eyes, a starry night, the sparkle of the ocean when the sun hits it, a moderately strong breeze, rain, and tastefully paired colors in everything I see.

In short, I like(no, change that..LOVE) nature, both its compositions and imperfections. Money may buy the things that appeal to my eyes, but the things that nourish my soul are in Mother Nature. And nothing/no one can ever change that.

I think when I'm happiest I'm looking at the world artistically, but when I'm doing okay I'm just analyzing / observing the world. beautiful things stand out to me-- bees on flowers, light pollution, fog, etc
