[INTP] Met any other fellow INTPs lately?

I was looking around the site using the search function, but apparently, I couldn't find a thread regarding INTPs meeting other INTPs in real life (so far anyway - Google hasn't really helped me either on other sites like Personality Cafe).

So, what say you? And how has that worked out?

INTPs in real life from what I understand are very rare not to also mention reclusive so the odds of you actually meeting up with one and befriending them is not something I would get my hopes up for.

Personally in my entire life I can only think of 3 people I have been friends with that might be INTP (one is at least an NT, the other 2 I'm pretty sure about) and they are all kind of on the weird side so my advice would be to investigate the outcast sections to improve your odds of finding one.

Well, the reason why I put this thread in the first place was because I've actually met an INTP in real life.

And it's funny (and yet scary at the same time) because we have similar sets of humor, similar interests in philosophy, literature, and movie styles (among other things), love theoretical discussions about the logical workings of said interests, and I could go on and on (and his Ti is very pronounced, as he is nit-picky and precise about concepts as well). . . .

Also, speaking of outcasts, while I was a member of our local high-school outcast group (and we weren't just the intellectual outcasts of high school: we were the outcasts who were beyond categorization!), I just met this guy a few weeks ago. At church.

But from the moment I first talked to him, I could tell he was an INTP right away.

So, has anyone else had similar experiences? (I just like to compare and contrast here, nothing more.)

Well, I had that experience when I went to college and first met other INTPs. The conversations were immediately deep and provocative and no drama baggage and just really really funny.

All of my INTP friends lived pretty far away, so I've rarely seen them... until I joined a new RPG group about a month ago, and guess what? Two members of the group identify as INTP. One seems more tech-minded (kind of like Spirilis here) and the other more of an intuitive and thinking mix with a great sarcastic sense of humor. Lots of fun with this group.

im pretty sure my room mate in civilian service was an INTP. quite possibly 5w4 like me, not too nerdy and a pot head with a heart(not the awkward robotic type, but a chill pot head hippie persona who doesent give a fuck what others think), but being an INTP he naturally had some interest in sciences, liked really much to read science illustrated, but not going too nerdy with it. we got to be friends even after civilian service ended, but he lives in another city and im bad at keeping contact to people who live far away and dont get to see often, so we havent been in contact for few years. also i know this girl(friend of a friend) who might be an INTP. never really got too close to her. dunno really what else to say about this.

I've only met one INTP in real life. He barely registered on the radar.

I'd like to meet more. I just want to play with one...several...to see what happens!

A fellow outcast amongst outcasts. I relate.

I have, and it's awesome. The first analogy that comes to mind is from that TV show "V". Ever see it?
Meeting another INTP is like meeting another "visitor" on earth, and being able to shed your human skin. Meeting one with whom there is true simpatico is like meeting another member of the "fifth column".

Actually, just being able to read books by INTPs affords me a massive sense of ...relief. They are like oases of calm rationality.

What about INTPc? Plenty of meet-ups there. Or at least, there used to be...

One of my best friends in the past (I kind of drifted off after I moved, and lost contact; with the online, I could easily re-establish it) was an INTP. He and I used to run around using Ne all the time in our teenage years (I knew him for a few years.) We used to hold LAN parties, undergo crazy antics such as who could be the craziest, and when he began dating it could be hilarious to watch (he could struggle to get to the emotional core of it.)
I know he is currently in IT.

It was funny how we met as well. I used to hang by myself, and one day he showed up as I was watching a team play soccer. We were awkward around each other, and we began to discuss games and books. We found out that we both liked the same books, and were playing the same games. We then exchanged a couple jokes, and decided to meet up after school.
It took off flying from there at quite the fast pace.

At work I've seen an IT specialist who may be an INTP, and he has certainly behaved like it. I can't accurately determine that though.

What about INTPc? Plenty of meet-ups there. Or at least, there used to be...

Oh, INTPc - I've been to sites like this (and the INTP Forum as well), and they do have really great insights into the INTP mind: I just like seeing how we naturally break down and analyze almost any subject, whether it be psychology, philosophy, or even relationships. It's nice to see a pattern of thinking that's similar to your own.

But meeting someone on the Internet is just not the same as in real life. And I do agree it is like "V" (yes, I have watched it ); it's a relief to not put on my facade of acting like an ENFP/ESFJ/other chameleon-like form to the rest of the universe.

Not that the other types are bad - I love my ISFJ mom, for example (which is funny because she has taken on some of my sarcastic sense of INTP humor). But being raised by SJ parents (esp. my ISTJ dad), having lots of social issues in middle/high school because SP/SJ-ness annoyed me (esp. by what I viewed as their superficiality), and having an ENFJ friend who has basically mastered the art of socialization, I realized I had to develop/compensate for my weak Fe if I was going to get ahead in life.

Unfortunately, I feel like some of my friend's ENFJ-ness has rubbed off of me to the point that while it's great when I'm doing it in a conversation, it's not so great in the sense that I feel fake. My emotions tend to be all or nothing, and when I put my efforts into talking to people, I act like I'm too extroverted despite the fact that I'm not naturally a loud personality. (And my natural loudness of voice - which comes out when I'm really excited about something, which isn't often - doesn't really help.)
