Yes, I had already thought about the Ti that would invent stiff principles and defense mechanisms to preserve valuable freetime. This is when the Ps cease to be flexible.

What do you like to do in your free time?

In my free time, mostly I do whatever I want to do and don't want to feel restrained by outside influences. It doesn't really matter what it is, it doesn't have to be materialistically productive. As long as it's something that engages me and me mind then that is sufficient.

I see. Thank you all for the advice provided.

Anything else someone would like to ask or put forth?

I tend to regularly structure my environment and make long-term plans, in some aspects, in order to reach goals efficiently...but then I always put them on hold when something more intriguing and relevant comes around. I also tend to lead a very (self) regimented life. These is more like a Judger. However, in many other aspects, I am much like a Perceiver and identify more with the INTP persona than with the INTJ one. It could also be an issue of projection: part of my family are extreme Js , the other part is extremely «P».

If of any help:

To the INTPs: anyone here wanting to share their punctuality problems?

I have to get into a routine of doing certain things at certain times in order to be punctual. I reserve an hour to take a shower and get ready in the morning, and about 30 minutes from when I leave the house to get to class (driving, parking, walking). Sometimes I misjudge the time it will take me to do something or get somewhere, and I have to refine it in the beginning. Little things which accumulate such as gathering my belongings, getting an umbrella if it's raining, doing something I forgot to do, remembering to get a snack, etc. throw my routine off because I can't predict how much time it will all take me. If I've done something a few times I can get a sense of time in a physical sense, but other than that I'm not very good with it. I don't know if this is particular to INTP or not.

Edit: Also I often I compensate by being early.

Hmm, I'm not really like that, but being ADD I am sure you had a lot of training to cope with that, or perhaps taken on coping mechanisms by yourself that could explain this.

If I think I need a shower, 5 mins, dress, 3 minutes and a quick breakfast 6 minutes, I'll wake up 10 minutes before I need to leave, shower in 3 minutes and then find myself to be eating while getting dressed on my way out the door. I'm more like Rasofy in that sense. Last minute panic. Last minute anything. :D

But even so, I never arrive somewhere too late, unless it's not important to be on time. But if I need to be at a customer or something, I'm always on time.

Yeah. Also being a girl I have to choose my outfit and put on makeup, so it takes me a little longer; plus I might hit the snooze button a few times. And I like long, hot showers.

True for me on both points, but I never take a long shower in the morning. That's reserved for evenings. In the morning it has to be really quick, because I've already hit snooze twice. :D

Due to inferior Fe it's definately a possibility, but it isn't very likely unless it's a more behind the scenes job. But in the forefront you probably won't see many INTP's in health services.

I agree with this. As in INTJ in healthcare, especially my particular job in the industry, it's full of NT's and SJ's.

Oh how familiar that sounds.

My husband either does as you described, or if he wakes up before the alarm, jumps on the computer and invariably loses track of time... after a while I look at the clock, 'Shouldn't you get going?'
'Shiiiiiit,' mad rush, putting on pants as he hops down the hallway. No breakfast, and he'll grab the toothbrush for use while driving.

He also is never late... actually hates to be late. Doesn't like making people wait for him.

If I have to get up to an alarm clock, I need about 10 mins. (No shower, that would have been done the night before. Yes sometimes I can plan). But if I wake up early, I will get completely ready so I can just relax until I have to leave.

As you say, I like to have jobs where I don't have to expend a lot of energy either thinking or feeling. I want to think about things I'm interested in, and I only have a limited amount of emotional energy. So I really like being a server (if I'm not overwhelmed and screwing up, which just takes practice). I can multitask once I learn to do it efficiently, I work in a pretty environment around food (Si?), I can be on my feet and moving, and I can develop my Fe without having to get too close to people. And it's pretty good money. I like physical jobs. Maybe a lot of INTP's like jobs where they use their brains more, I don't know. I write a lot about philosophy, and I would like to be published and make money that way. I also know a lot about herbal medicine and natural healing, and might want to be a natural health consultant some day. Also once I get good enough at silks I want to perform. Not a typical INXP, but the part about saving your thinking for yourself is I think.
I also like physical activities that dont take all of my energy ie walking, jogging, working out because I can still think and it seems to focus my thoughts and organize them.

Even if an INTP focuses and tries to specialize on something, he will find it pretty much impossible to ignore aspects that an INTJ might not find important enough to note, as a result an INTP is not much of a specialist.

An INTJ can similarly attempt to think architectically(word lol?) on a subject, but will find himself naturally moving towards the Ni-values important to him and ignore the rest. As a result an INTJ is not much of an architect.
An INTP specializes in subjects, while an INTJ specializes in projects. By that I mean an INTPs tends to explore a subject that interests them, with no particular regard to utility or accomplishment, and will try to understand that subject as well as possible. An INTJ will focus on a problem to solve or project to complete, and will learn whatever is needed to do so. This may make it look like INTJs have a broader range of interests, and in a sense they do, whereas INTPs will have greater depth of interest in fewer areas.

INTPs know they know nothing, the first step to wisdom.
As opposed to those INTJs who...?
who know they know everything, or at least everything worth knowing. The first step to action.

so
I just read this entire thread, hoping to get some hints for my own predicament. I am still unsure whether I am INTJ or INTP.

Can I ask your opinion?

I'm not exactly sure which details are most helpful in discerning P/J dominance, but here are some:

I have always been a pretty "bad" student, in the sense that I am extremely undisciplined. I don't think I have ever done an essay or studied for a test more than one day in advance. I don't have too much trouble with missing classes. I began my delinquent career in elementary school and it has continued into college, except now that I'm older I have gotten more skilled at making myself do things. Even with my lack of discipline I have done okay in school, because I am very good at figuring out the right answer, and I test very well. I can learn things quickly. At various times in my youth I was placed in gifted programs, but I didn't want to have to do all the "stupid" work that teachers assigned, because I felt it was unnecessary. There were times that I would simply refuse to do an assignment. I would study other academic topics while in class. For instance, studying astronomy, for fun, while not paying attention in english class. I always wished my mom would homeschool me, by way of letting me learn things in my own way, on my own time, and by myself.

I am often frustrated that I am doing things that everyone else is doing. I am interested in almost everything, but nothing can hold my attention enough to make me commit to it. I have a very hard time committing to anything, and hate having a job for that reason. Having my time occupied with things I don't want to do really makes me anxious and I feel best when I feel like I have nothing to get done and have the freedom to do whatever I want, even if it's unproductive. I dislike anything that requires a lot of practice, like learning an instrument. I want to pick up an instrument and make a song. I do not want to play it and sound like crap for years before ever getting rewarded. I am extremely impatient.

However, when I am working and at home, I am extremely efficient about many things. I can quickly see what is the most efficient way of completing a project or getting anything done. I am very methodical in my thoughts and approach. I get irritated with other people who don't seem to grasp things immediately or who do things incorrectly/inefficiently. I very much enjoy planning things and while I don't necessarily have a problem with spontaneity, I tend to plan things.

The bolded parts might point to INTJ, whilest the rest of the post pretty much screams INTP. Could you explain your thoughts and feeling better on the bolded parts and give examples and your reasons of acting like that?

Yep.

You might just have a lot of practice being efficient, and so you got good at it. I too enjoy getting things done at work when I know what I'm doing, and the learning curve annoys me. The learning curve of anything annoys me.

heh, it annoys everyone though, right? Learning curve is almost synonymous with "it will take you xx amount of time before you will actually know what you are doing." ugh

Could be. But some types seem to mind it less than others. INTP's particularly seem to have a habit of just not bothering unless they can immediately be good at something.

If it is about something INTP's are not good at, it would almost surely mean it is about something that isn't much of a mental stimulation, since if it was, the INTP wouldn't likely suck at it.

In that sense I agree.
