[MBTI General] differences between ENTP and ESTP?

I just discovered a new way to tell the difference.

If they weigh the same as a duck, then they are made of wood, therefore they float, and also are a witch = ENTP.

I don't like a lot of ENTPs... the way to tell the difference is that the ENTP is more likely to manipulate you and maniacally laugh :D

well said. want affection AND control. more interested in mind games and demonstrating superiority. trap-- discuss a highly abstract and imply that the ability to formulate solution is related to intelligence. argue a solution contrary to the Etp. defensive or conciliatory =s aggressive and out to win--- n

ENTP: SanChlor; ESTP: ChlorSan.
Same temperament combo, so they do look very similar (And that blend is said to be the most rambunctious, since it's both of the "expressive" temperaments; in this case, "extraverted" or "pragmatic"); but "areas of interaction" (Interaction Style, conation style) swapped.

The difference is of course the abstract (conceptual) vs concrete (tangible) focus. Since American (and probably much of the West) society is basically ST, ESTP's will be more about the norm, and they will be more into day to day living, and activity. Like in teens, they will probably be into stuff like partying, and they will often be the life of the party, and help set the definition of "normalcy". They will probably be hard on those seen as "weird". So right there, you can begin to detect the "directiveness" of the S+T preference. They will look fun and sociable, but their attitude will be more "don't call me; I'll call you", as is common for "In Charge" types.

ENTP will be much more conceptually minded, and likely to be "weird", though they will probably still be able to command respect from others, because of their extraversion. They will likely socialize, but not be into as much as the ESTP. The Ne will make them more "light and airy", and accepting of others. In battles, they will probably end up more about "winning" than the ESTP, because of the NT's "structure-focus" in place of the SP's "motive focus".

I imagine both types might be "bad" in class, but the ESTP will be the general noise maker, where the ENTP will be the one who challenges the teacher.

I give up on trying to confirm my type. My type is SPENT.

As for Saturned 's ball test, I'd probably automatically hit it back, causing the person to fall backwards unconscious, smashing a school of ducklings in the river.

Those ducklings probably deserved it anyways.

ESTP are pragmatic, sometimes at the point to be too much pragmatic and neglect the long-term or the big picture, they are in-charge peoples who take the lead in situations and release the vibe of a commandant. ESTPs are more focused on their entrepreunarial projects, and their creativity is directly related on their sensory experiences, ENTP are more focused on their ideas that they are enthusiastic to cummunicate. ESTPs want to sell an idea, they repress Ni, so that they can overestimate the scope of their proposed solutions, ENTPs wan to share ideas and challenge your point of view, they repress Si so that they can neglect the small stuffs.

Overall, ESTPs arem more theatral and histrionic, ENTPs are more antisocial and intelectual. Both can be histrionic, antisocial, intelectual and theatral though. Both , also, tend strongly to be hypomaniac.

ENTP live more in their heads and are slower to react in reality. ESTP are more physical and not to ofend anyone superficial. The're both generaly very smart. ENTP live more in the future. ESTP are in here and now. ENTP love theories and ESTP mostly find them boring if they can't DO anything with it. They're also detail oriented. ENTP tend to be more loyal in relationships.

While I think ESTPs really are cool/real/chill/down-to-earth, etc... they seem especially intent on portraying themselves in that manner. ENTPs may like to portray themselves in a certain way too, but if you approach that weird topic that they're interested in, their entire ego vanishes. Think real cool/chill vs. utter enthusiasm.

This.

Very, very true. That's a pretty insightful description of differences. At first glance, ENTPs and ESTPs are hard to tell apart. It's only once I listen to their language that I'm able to tell the difference. The ESTPs I know love to appear laid-back and real. The ENTPs I know cannot control themselves when you venture upon an out-there topic they're interested in. Image seems to be much more important for ESTPs than ENTPs. While I think ESTPs really are cool/real/chill/down-to-earth, etc... they seem especially intent on portraying themselves in that manner. ahh, this post is really helpful. i can definitely see ENTP then, because he rambles on for hours about historical figures no one has ever heard of if i give him the chance...

for the record, i asked the person i started this thread over, and he tested as an ENXP. 70% intuitive.
hmm.

ENTPs are NT
ESTPs are SP

So read the differences between NT and SP and theres your main difference between ENTP and ESTP.

Oh... and ENTPs are Ne-Dominant. ESTP are Se-Dominant.

If you don't know the difference, you have a bit of learning to do.

I am confused as to the bold.

I have met quite a few STPs who could easily give their NTP counterparts a run for their money.

The best way to tell? Throw a ball at him when he least expects it. If he's an ESTP he will catch and perform a backflip. If he's an ENTP it will bounce off of his head and land in a pond where it will later be consumed by a duck who will die from it.

That is the dumbest reply I have read in a long time.

Both ENTP and ESTP would catch the ball. ESTP would react off reflexes and hand eye coordination. ENTP would know you're going to throw the ball before you even throw the ball. Ne-Dominants are the most aware of whats going on around them. They know what you're up to. Furthermore, the ENTP would have a bag of 10 more balls ready to toss back at you. They don't like being one upped.

Ne-Dom's do know whats going on around them better than other types.... according to one of the most credible MBTI websites at least.

http://www.personalitypage.com/html/ENTP.html

With Extraverted Intuition dominating their personality, the ENTP's primary interest in life is understanding the world that they live in. They are constantly absorbing ideas and images about the situations they are presented in their lives. Using their intuition to process this information, they are usually extremely quick and accurate in their ability to size up a situation. With the exception of their ENFP cousin, the ENTP has a deeper understanding of their environment than any of the other types.

I think you may of misinterpreted that...

Sweet and short ENTPs do not care about the moment, may forget or find possessions useless or see new uses for them. ESTPs are pretty attentive to the moment on the other hand.. its pretty cliche, but they're normally good sports players and entrepenuers...bla, how do you spell that word even

Ahahahha. Please, continue misreading everything. It's a joy to read your posts. If you are an entp you certainly didn't read my original post correctly at all.

It's quite amusing.

Come on people, dont be so rude to him. Everybody knows that estp may be way better with people than entps are, but the ego and self-confidence entps have, as in the schlong, nobody can beat :D

Guys, no, he's helping invent typology because that's what ENTP's do. They invent things.

Ne doms are way in tuned to the immediate environment, you guys must not know the definition of Se at all... They like... um. well they do something else I think.
