I rarely feel like I relate to other people on a holistic level, if ever. When it comes to the actual person, I work under the assumption that I can never truly know someone to the extent that they know themselves so to say I relate to someone as a whole would feel disingenuous. I can relate to someone who is upset about their favorite shirt being ruined because I can empathize with the underlying emotion behind their plight, but I cannot relate to the actual person behind those feelings because I can't really know that person's individual perception of the world. If that makes any sense.
