So there is a lack of a thread that is about articles or videos anything that could be interesting to other NT's. And please members of the Zeitgeist Movement this is not your chance to spam the thread with posts. This is not meant to be just about Science/technology anything could be interesting

We will start a little light with a documentary I enjoyed watching, it is 9 years old though. If any one has new info on this please Im quite interested in something on the subject.

Thanks for this thread!! I think this is a wonderful addition. If nothing else, the internet has allowed us the ease to sift and filter information, and to share that filtered "gold" with others of like mind.

Article: Genes, Evolution, and Personality

This is a review paper by T.J. Bouchard, Jr. and J.C. Leohlin from 2001. It suggests that personality traits are a part of genetic heritability and natural selection for how a species might be able to withstand and cope with their environment. Based on this standpoint of the genetic heritability of behavioral traits, Bouchard and Leohlin argue that behavioral analysis cannot be fully complete without acknowledging behavioral genetics.

Thanks for this - interesting that this could be obliquely related to the map of global distribution of average IQ that was posted a few days ago???

I look forward to reading this

Hahaha germans make fun of their own horrible past, I like it, full of win...

That video is like an alltime classic, like 10 years old and it always comes to the table if people start to vote for extremist parties because they promise things they never can do.

I have seen the documentary about parallel universes too and that one here is good too:

+ of course alltime fav all things by Dr.Quantum :D:

Oh! So, this paper:

Gosling, S. D., & John, O. P. (1999). Personality Dimensions in Nonhuman Animals: A Cross-Species Review. Current Directions In Psychological Science , 8 (3), 69-75.

is ALSO very interesting, because it talks about how personality traits could link in to evolution! This was a cross-species review by S. D. Gosling and O.P. John of 19 papers across 12 nonhuman animal species in 1999, to see if observable personality traits in animals resembled the Big Five traits found in the NEO-PI-R: Neuroticism, Agreeableness, Extroversion, Openness, and Conscientiousness. Of the 12 species reviewed, only the Chimpanzee had clear behavioral traits resembling conscientiousness, suggesting that this might have been a later developing evolutionary trait (possibly linked to intelligence??). Dominance was found to be identified as a separate trait in 7 of the 12 species, and was suggested to be held as an identifying trait in further personality studies of animals.

Therefore, dominance and aggression could have evolved into agreeableness and conscientiousness. Benevolence as a means by which to have a strong society and successful development of the species??

Probably alot of people have seen this before, but anyone who hasn't, I still think it's rather neat ^^

And it gives alot of thought into how short we are from getting true AI; there's other things, probably under military development, which are farther ahead I'm sure, but it's surprising to see a game able to pull such off that well.

Now, about half of that is scripted, rather than actual AI or anything, since there's still alot of bugs and it's not finished, and is just under development still. Even so, that even HALF of that ISN'T scripted, is rather amazing.

Makes yeu wonder whot we'll have in 50 years XD Noone even predicted the internet... can't even begin to imagine where we'll really be, or whot major breakthroughs will occur that we haven't even thought of yet that will change everything.

It's the only thing I could think of off the top of my head, honestly... but when I go looking for documentaries or something similar again I'll be sure to post here ^^

Freaky!

I wonder what the psychology behind the character "Milo" was chosen...is there a certain psychology behind trusting/interacting with a young teenage boy?

I also wonder what will do to children and social interactions...will it better or worsen social skills? Will it make them less or more trusting of people in general? More confident in situations, or more uneasy (wishing they could be interacting with Milo instead)...?

I also am starting to psycho-analyse why I am taking the psychological route in my interpretation of this video, as opposed to critiquing the technology involved or predicting where it might develop...*get out of my head!!*

YouTube - Lecture - 1 Introduction to Quantum Physics;Heisenberg''s uncertainty principle

-A wonderful series of lectures to either put on your Ipod or to listen to while at work.

YouTube - Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri Secret Project: The Planetary Datalinks

-Both very thought provoking videos about the future of the human species and of the universe at large.

Horrors! Maybe the Schools Are Working Just Fine

-Another thought provoking piece. I prefer this particular one over the obsessive use of anecdotes in Taylor Gatto's works.

The wealth of nations - Google Books

-"It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own interest". Despite the fact that it is now over 200 years old it amazes me that people are still not aware of the principles that this book discusses.

Ken Robinson says schools kill creativity | Video on TED.com

Sir Ken Robinson: Bring on the learning revolution! | Video on TED.com

I am blown away by the TED videos - this is so in line with my personal soapbox and my educational role as the anti-teacher who deconstructs and reconstructs learning.

Thank you very much for this - I will now look at the Godel Escher video ;)
