In someone's thread that was posted here, an ENTP was described somewhat like that. That is, the "kid" that "leeches" of his big-time parents' wealth.

Being an INTP myself with strong E and Fi, I often associate myself, and to a certain extent, empathize with ENTPs, ENFPs, and INFPs. They're the other archetypes that I can easily relate to other than my own.

I thought that it was a smart statement. I know a significant number of ENxPs myself and this is something that I observed to be true, but for the fear of having a hasty inductive reasoning, I tend to overlook, sometimes ignore, that observation.

______________

Basic profile would be something like this.
Has a good bearing. You know that the person is considerably educated. The person is considerably articulate and you'll know immediately that he came from a good family background in terms of affluence.

But closer inspection will show you the difference. The person dresses more casually. He isn't the one who would readily acknowledge his parents' wealth (maybe because the accusation of leeching is bad enough).

He knows the mindset of a person who has a strong Te, but in reality, he's really anti-corporate himself (sometimes even advocates socialism) and would even advocate the path to least resistance (Ti).

I have a hunch that if the ENxP person grew up in a Te heavy family, he might see something wrong with the cognitive process (e.g., Te's advocacy of THE ENDS JUSTIFIES THE MEANS), therefore, consequently making himself advocate the polar opposite = Process over results (Ti), or maybe to some people, Fi (the known weak cognitive process of someone having a strong Te).

Did any ENxP here feel that at some point (assuming that your parents could be rich Te monsters), you need to develop whatever weakness they have so that there'd be a sense of equilibrium in the family?

Anyway, I know that NP is quite childish. At first, it was hard for me to embrace this (even if it may be inherent) because I was taught responsibility in life (SJ) way too early. I think this may have caused a sort of drawback in me later in life by rekindling a childish playroom I wish I have more of. I think that's part of what makes me NTP now.

Personally I'd disagree.

It is true that the 'richboy' stereotype (such in movies and media) relates very closely to ENTP's behaviour. But I believe the statement's value starts and ends with that.

Well for ME personally, most of that's highly accurate, though I think that's moreso just blind luck. I don't think personality would truly be tied totally down to parentage or upbringing fully. Though it would likely have some degree of effect.

As for balancing out? No. Not at all. That's a side effect.

I didn't grow different from my parents due to wanting to balance them out, I grew different because I recognized their flaws and refused to repeat the same mistakes they had. I strive to learn and better myself, both from my OWN mistakes, and from the mistakes witnessed that OTHERS have done as well.

I'm not about to become a slave to the almighty dollar like some people I've noticed -_-;

Totally.

But to be honest, any type can be annoying. And therein lies my point. :p

i was already a CLEAR ENP child for as early as I can remember.

Portrait of an ENP Child <-
My father is an estj with strong N I'd say, but he was rarely ever home as i was growing up.

My parents had money problems during all my childhood, I was giving them the money i'd get for my birthday I mean, that's how bad it was.
I was brought up in a rich district/ went to private schools.

I'm not impressed by luxury cars or and hotels, I think entps are not impressionable AT ALL in general, so that might give that 'came from money' impression.

there.

I'm not 100% sure I completely follow your train of thought.

Define rich would be my first instict.

ENTP's are supposidly the lest likely to be able to manage money. They are usually quite good at making it... but lousy at managing. I belive that all NT's mature slower than other types so ENTPs are likely to have some dependancy on their parents longer perhaps. I can't say I filtched but they did help out occationally - but not abnromally so.

I suspect the ENTP financial management is because they quite like to spend, and have an instant gratification issue going on.... but thats just a hypothesis.

NTP's have a playful nature that s slow to mature, but even the mature ones reamin playfull. I beleive it's a different type of intellectual curiosity... if I have time later and you are interested i can see if I can find someting about that.... Basically the P/J differences may have some relationship to actually that playful engagment of exploring possibilitites - difference between water thinking P type/ and rock thinking J type. The childishness allows wider exploration - there is no right and wrong it's just different...

I definately came from a T dominant household... I never felt I had to balance my family out - there was too many of them (yongest of 11). I do think I've seen a lot of ENTPs who are the baby so may be a bit spolied.

I got a bit lost in your thinking in the middle bit of your post

Maybe entps in general just have a personality that tends to make their families and 'entourage' spoil them, but I doubt it should be considered as the origin of the personality traits, it would be more of a self substaining process allowing to keep the need for J development low as entps have different ways to cope with social obligations and so on.

ABSOLUTELY, I wasn't infering causation at all... FYI I was SO an entp kid too... I used to go get wood and stuff from the DIY scrap shop and Make things... (all of which were shit but very engaging).

Lego 4tw. Everything built is made from pieces, and therefore a form of lego ^^

I even went so far as to get ahold of a lego CAD program semi recently, I'm about halfway done designing my perfect dream home in lego in it, and then I got bored, but I could probably go back and finish it ^^

But I never will.

I had a lego city in my bedroom and my ENTP brother loved to play a game called 'disaster'. :(

I'm just ironically reverse-engineering stereotypical behaviour.

...Wait. That's childish too, isn't it? :D
