I was under the impression that "Hardcore" is the general term used to describe all the 'cores'. It's so much easier that way. Some people do prefer to avoid specific cores though.

edit: Silversun pickups - Swoon (album) - Fucking awesome.

Metallica; Prodigy; Chemical Brothers; Air; Daft Punk; Zero7; Apollo 440; Pendulum; System of a Down; Bach; Chopin; Mozart; Rachmaninov;

Music is a state of mind.

Lately, I've been listening to alot of classical on the radio/internet-radio, chillout/ambient.

Dnb sometimes psy/goa if I have energy for it. Must check my iron levels.

Getting to learn how to play music also toke me to learn how to enjoy classical more.

And the issue with absence of lyrics being more timeless and subjective merges between psytrance/dnb/<insert genre here> and classical, as does other aspects like arpegios and syncopation, but that's another topic, althought it explains (for Ne) the bridge made in the psyque.

I snorted at that video and mentally covered my face with my hands to shield myself from the embarrassment.

I second all the NTPs who said dream pop and shoegaze. I also like to add psychedelic rock/pop(whatever), and general fast but calming music. I'm not familar with the most correct genres.

My music's relation to me is something I just enjoy listening to- I don't pay attention to the lyrics, and I don't listen to music as a inspiration or whatever. It's just something to sooth myself for me, I could care less if the beats are overrused or whatever.

That also probably inclines me, There are times where I listen to meaningless partying music.

Electronic, Classical (I'm a violinist), 80s Alternative, Contemporary Alternative, Industrial.

And occasionally, while I will never admit it to anyone else (Doh!), Metal/Screamo. My musical taste is actually not all that odd, despite the way people treat it.

I actively enjoy:
-90's alt rock (CAKE, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Beck, Radiohead, White Stripes)
-Current indie pop-rock type stuff (The Morning Benders, MGMT, Scissors for Lefty)
-Indie rap type stuff (Atmosphere, Aesop Rock)

I sometimes listen to:
-Reggaeton type stuff (Calle 13, Pitbull, whatever happens to be on the radio while I'm driving)
-Electro (when I'm at raves or whatever...which I don't really do any more...)
-Classical (love live performances, don't own any classical CDs)

Stuff I don't really care about:
-hardcore
-psychedelic (no Grateful Dead kthx)
-the really gross brand of rock characterized by things like Daughtry and Nickelback
-country
-experimental/instrumental techno/fusion/whatever they play on NPR in between segments.

I like American and British Alternative, whether or not it is indie. Some of my favorites:

They Might Be Giants
The Decemberists
Arctic Monkeys
Fleet Foxes
Franz Ferdinand
some Phantom Planet
The Clash

There are a few others. I am not as particular about it being new or old, I just have to like it.

I like all of those, and I forgot to add:

some Animal Collective
Kings of Convenience
Kings of Leon
Grizzly Bear
Beirut
The Shins
Jimi Hendrix
Mates of State
Josh Groban (might just be because I'm a woman :) )
Owl City
and older Ratatat

And I cannot recommend a band more highly than I recommend The National - I am seriously in love with them.

and I know quite a few teenage NTJ girls that love Taylor Swift.

When I listen to music it isn't so much about the genre as it is the song. Some songs have absent melodies, are overly simplistic, obnoxiously happy, or annoyingly repetitive. I don't like those.

I will listen to anything that sounds good, sucker for complex melody. Songs that contain this actually form four dimensional shapes in my imagination. It is very cool.

I've noticed how INTPs always seem to like the atmospheric stuff, myself included.

Im seriously sick of all the "cores" Ive got several hardcore metalhead freinds and all they talk about(atleast when it comes to music) is "Grindcore is kind of like porncore mixed with screechcore" "Dude Deathcore is such a ripoff of Insanecore." I seriously think that every new band that comes out just invents a new "___core" genre for themselfs just to sound more original.
I mean they all sound the ssame except for small differences and those small differences dont warrent a different genre there the kind of differences that distinguish two different bands in one genre.

Plus when it comes down too it all the cores are essentialy the same thing
one guy screaming his lungs out while another guy plays a guitar thats so distorted that for all I know he could be playing the most brilliant piece of music ever written, or he could be slamming his face against the strings.

you forgot "Crabcore"

I find myself drawn to some of the faster-paced, relatively complex (compared to the crap on MTV, at least) music. I listen to:

hardcore trance
psychedelic trance (these subgenres of trance are a lot faster-paced that regular trance)
symphonic/gothic/power metal (in order of preference)
