Hi everyone,

Just a few quick questions.

I understand that over time one's preferred functions can change.

I'm now in fourth year engineering. Before starting engineering I was definitely an INFJ. Strong I and N. But over the last three years the thinking function has become a lot stronger. I ascribe this to the way the degree is teaching us to think. So basically INXJ. NiFe to Ni(Fe/Te). Fairly straightforward, continuous spectrum.

Then over the last month or so I've basically found myself suddenly cut short on being able to read others, organise myself, been very logical etc etc etc (the list goes on). My NiFe has disappeared, to be replaced with TiNe. Rather confusing.

My question is, is this merely a product of a busy final year or more permanent? Either way, how can i optimise the functionaility of TiNe while minimising the consequences of loosing (whatever the reason) Fe?

People change over time, there's your explanation. I think you're over-thinking all of this and taking it a little too seriously. MBTI won't account for everything in a person's development or behaviour, so stop worrying that your NiFe is supposedly being put out to dry or that you're magically turing into someone else because your behaviour has changed a bit.

If that's not good enough, either you're not INFJ or your Ti is becoming more prominent. :pornstar:

You could be confusing Ni with Ne. Your Ti could just be becoming more developed. Take yourself away from school and put yourself in a completely personal situation. Your real type will show. I've been playing around with Ne and Fi a lot lately, and then I went on vacation this weekend, wondering if I'd be more playful and fun. I was a little more relaxed, but the ISTJ still showed all day everyday. My family wanted to know why I wanted to put a rigid schedule on a vacation.

I think these things are additive. Your NF abilities are still there; you have just been busy intigrating other functions, not replacing old ones.
IMO, this is a very good thing. You are becoming well rounded.

I'm still kind of interested in what drives an INFJ to take engineering.

i would never take engineering. my dad's an engineer and when i was in h.s. i felt doomed that i was going to end up as an engineer as well. i had a high aptitude for math, until i realized i in fact hated it. with that said, i find few things of more social value than engineering. Ti advanced enneagram 5 infjs are often much more interested in architectonics than in human relations (ie via customer service positions).

also, i feel like education can play a huge role in developing tertiary Ti. i studied social theory, complex systems theory, semiotics and cultural theory, philosophy of language, music theory, metaphysics, and ecology in school. everything was an abstraction. i feel like it took me a couple of years afterward to rediscover Fe.
