I do. Maybe at the wrong times. Then I frown during happy times. Can't help it.

Sometimes they smile too much (sample size=1)
Sometimes they don't smile enough (sample size=1)

Smiling too much is when they have a huge crush, they will also laugh too much and blush too much. Basically act a bit intoxicated. They smile too much also when in a goofy or juvenile mood, looking for trouble in a relatively innocent and benign way.

Not smiling enough happens when they zone out - overloaded, tired - want to be polite so they give off an attentive look - but you can see the vacuousness in their eyes. Also when they're being serious-which is often. Not going to get a smile out of them then. Interacting with strangers can also give off cold, uninviting vibes which makes clear for others to stay away.

Infps operate in both extremes -- too much and too little, I think.

No, they're just too neurotic, e.g. about small random things like laugh smiling too much.

*looks at OPer and other INFPs*

ENFPs and ESFPs are giggling bastards, and look, they don't really care, and they get away with it.

Probably not an INFP but I see a few people voted for INFP in my poll so I'll chime in. Normally I have a rather unanimated flat affect in public but now and then at seemingly random moments I'll often be laughing or smiling to myself and people will say things to me like "What's so funny?" or "What are you smiling about?" I guess I can amuse myself quite easily at times.

the general difference for INFPs seems like they are more generally reserved but sometimes when a laughsmile breaks through it's kind of awkward because they're off in Ne land and not really paying attention to how situationally appropriate smiling would be.

so it seems kind of anomalous. whereas ExFPs are spouting it all the time, so it's kind of expected.

though imo displaying happiness should never be a problem.

Nope, I have people always ask me what's wrong and they smile at me. Why do they smile at me? I don't know, it makes me uncomfortable, because by the time I realize I should smile back it's too late so I look like a bitch.

Sometimes perhaps. One of my things is that sometimes I just burst out laughing. Like there is a whole bunch of silence, and then sudden laughter. I might be imagining what I'm going to say in the future, or remembering something that happened at any point in time. That also includes what is perhaps happening in fantasy (such as what's happening in a story or in the future).

I do have a tendency to laugh at inappropriate times as well.

INFPs smile a lot? Wow, that's new. I once had a math teacher who smiled all the time. We all thought he was on prozac, but it turned out he used his workplace computer to watch porn. He got fired right after his boss discovered it.

Yeah, he did. It's not fair, actually. In that case they should have fired the paedophile teacher who stares at the bums of 13 year olds as well. I actually hate that teacher, he ruined my social life. The one who got fired was quite nice, actually. He gave me nice grades. :)

I used to smile and laugh very few when I was a teenager. That changed over the years so I smile a lot more when something is not bothering me right now (like Onceajoan described). I don't really laugh too much, it is more similar to a giggle usually ^^ The "inappropriate" laughing applies to me too, like when I have to start laughing again about a thing which happened much earlier and everyone is already finished with laughing, or when I think about something funny in my head while people talk about something totally different. Or when I sit alone in a bus / walk over the street.

I opened a thread about INFP facial expression lately actually.

Ugh.. yeah. I always tell myself that if there's a chance that I get sent to hell, it'll be because I laughed at the wrong times.
