I'm just curious what the other INFJs are studying/what they're doing after school.

I majored in Asian Studies, minored in Business Administration.
For my BA, concentrated on the Japanese language.

Jobs after school:

1. English teacher in Japan
2. Japanese/English translator/interpreter
3. (Currently) I work in finance, mostly dealing with legal disclosure prospectuses, SAIs, and Annual/Semiannual reports - here, my job title is 'Product Manager'.

How about the others of us?

I'm not studying yet.. But I'm interested in fields of psychology, social sciences and art, or something creative in writing (like e.g. a dramaturge)

I've been thinking long and hard what'd be the job that would actually motivate me enough to you know, work. Something for a cause, would have to be able to make an impact on peoples' lives. A huge humanitarian drive, possibly the strongest of all, therefore the most motivating.

Nothing sitting in a corporate box, eww. Having my own freedom and possibility to be creative too.

And I think just that I want to keep studying.

And I will write and write - and someday will publish (an own stubborn aim, just something for myself).

And another INFJs view presented.. (As we were discussing about this today, actually).. She's interested in the healing - alternative medicine kind of stuff.

I'm going to university for psychology. I actually just transferred into the field this year; I was previously taking social work.

I studied culinary arts, will probably go towards the professional instead of entrepreneurship route like most people here.

also in leisure time, linguistic and arts. And a part of psychology.

I'm focusing on art, namely comic and animation. I'm planning on majoring in Animation at the moment.

However, I'm also interested in studying fields in sociology and psychology (and basically everything of that nature). I'm interested in far to many things, so it's proving a bit difficult to decide on a single area of study, though at the moment I have narrowed it down to these to (hopefully) make things simpler.

I don't do college (already tried it once and it just wasn't right for me...I was completely overwhelmed and ended up flunking out [went to Purdue University and I wanted to major in physics])...I just do a lot of research on different things out of personal interest.

I'm currently studying animal care with dreams of getting into conservation work. I also have an interest in psychology and sociology, but above all I'd really like to be a successful author I think. So yes, it's a bit of a mixed bag.

Blah. :)

Degree in Ecology, Ethology, and Evolution
Then:
-5-month volunteer job at Arches National Park
-thought about going back to school
-6-month environmental internship at a county government
-Temp work
-5-month temporary environmental education type job
-Temp work
-Fell into corporate job for 5.5 yrs because I was tired of temporary jobs and temping. Started in customer service (yuck), then my last 2 yrs was a Systems Analyst doing systems testing. Again thought about going back to school halfway through all of this.
-Now unemployed and need to find a job again.

My other INFJ friends -
#1 Electrical Engineer for almost 10 yrs, but doesn't like it and is thinking of trying to get into med school
#2 Has worked for a zoo for over 10 yrs, and is really making a name for herself now in the world conservation field
#3 Accountant
#4 Similar to me - numerous random jobs over his lifetime, but currently in systems testing

i majored in anthropology and religious studies, and since graduating ive just kicked around doing different things.

ie moved to new cities, went to culinary school for a year, waiting tables, posturing around town, etc.

i'm interested in music, the arts, and philosophy/social theory. i like when my friends in graduate school blow in and i realize how fast i am learning, albeit on my own. i have not formulated my big project, but nevertheless i AM working on something- i feel it in my bones.

i'll probably either go back to school in a few years on a phd track in comp lit or cultural studies. or go to a music program at a community college. or go thru an mfa track in creative writing. these are if i feel the need to engage the structures present for collecting cultural capital, validation, etc, if that is a necessary step for me in the creative/productive process.

if i could skip steps i'd consider becoming a chef. holistic healer feels like a comedy sketch, but nevertheless, Ni! how perfect.

I studied Chemistry at university in the UK, eventually graduating with a BSc in Chemistry and a Masters in Analytical Chemistry.

I've been working in analytical chemistry for major government laboratories ever since, in both London and Auckland, New Zealand. I started out analysing foodstuffs for nutrients and contaminants, but after a few years of trying, I finally I managed to move into my dream job in the Forensic Drugs team at the lab. That was over 17 years ago, and I am now a Senior Forensic Scientist in NZ.

It's not all CSI, unfortunately, there is a great deal of paperwork and fine attention to detail involved, which can strain my weak Sensing functions to the limit. But overall, I'd say it's been a fantastic and interesting career. Sometimes, my Ni astounds me by accurately predicting the results of a complicated case before I've even opened the exhibits!

I wish there were more INFJs in the sciences. According to Isabel Briggs-Myers, Intuition powered by Feeling can make for an outstanding scientist, providing the field of science is in line with the INFJs deeper values and purpose.

Ideally I'd like to move on now, into a sort of counsellor/therapist/life-coach role. I do this all the time for my friends anyway, and have taken numerous courses and training in my own time to develop my counselling skills. However, I have yet to summon the courage to give up my secure, comfortable job for a leap into the uncertainties of working for myself.

Undergrad -- doublemajored in English and Women's Studies

After graduating, I worked for a year and a half as a reporter -- enjoyed the writing side of it, but got burnt out from the stress and hate mail (one interest group or another inevitably felt their side wasn't represented in an article)

Then I worked as an elementary school teacher assistant for a year and a half and really enjoyed it -- as an NF, a meaningful career is important to me, and the warm, nurturing environment of an elementary school definitely appeals to my feeler side.

Then I went back to get a masters in elementary education to become a teacher.

I just graduated and am looking for a job in this frightful economy, lol! But I'm optimistic something will turn up...

I think elementary education will be a good field for me long-term. I figure if I get burnt out with classroom teaching I could move into another specialty within elementary ed, like reading specialist, special ed, school librarian, etc.

Oh yeah, and the summer breaks are AWESOME. Great for that quiet reflective time that us INFJs need to recharge ;o)
