    Bad sleeping habits die hard.

Also had a strangely somewhat empowering and fulfilling dream unlike my usual confusing mess of dreams where I'm running away from something.

I've had some pretty good dreams recently. It's to the point where I wake up and am disappointed when I realize that none of that stuff actually happened to me.

I know, I'm usually relieved to be awake cos in my more recent dreams I'm constantly on the run with no time to rest but this was so nice and I wish it reflected my reality :p Unfortunately, back to good old boring reality.

    Hey guys!

It's been a good long run here, but I'll be leaving this site for good. It's nothing to do with any negativity here - overall, I've had positive feelings towards nearly everyone on TypoC. I just feel like it's time for me to move on now.

So with a final giant hug to all of you guys, I bid you farewell in case any of you ever start to miss me, I'll still be around on my freestyle poetic lines blog every now and then (and on my Tumblr blog - my username there is angelight1).

I don't want to die ever knowing that I could've let someone know who I cared about, have their feelings attacked and felt alone.

One thing as sure as hell is to me is that not everyone can calm down by gentleness and persuasion. Person was an idiot as soon as the conception of his return.

    An error in the system.

Fuck yeah I'm a human being. I have feelings.

I think that when people fear artificial intelligence, they are confused and what they are actually fearing is consciousness and self-awareness in machines and computers.

For that matter, are carbon-based lifeforms really so different? Is everything we consider to be intelligence, self-awareness, and free will really just a complex set of biological algorithms?

Could a super-intelligent computer or machine be considered alive?

    Merriam-Webster:
    alive
    adjective \ə-ˈlīv\

: having life : living : not dead
    : continuing to exist
: not yet defeated : still having a chance to win or succeed
By definitions #2 and #3, we could argue yes. Definition #1 depends on how we define life.

    again, Merriam-Webster:
    life
    noun \ˈlīf\

: the ability to grow, change, etc., that separates plants and animals from things like water or rocks
: the period of time when a person is alive
: the experience of being alive
I'm an idiot regarding programming and computer science, but I would say intelligent machines could potentially be said to have life if they at least meet those definitions. Now I want to think about the nature of intelligence.

    Merriam-Webster:
    intelligence
    noun in·tel·li·gence \in-ˈte-lə-jən(t)s\

: the ability to learn or understand things or to deal with new or difficult situations
: secret information that a government collects about an enemy or possible enemy; also : a government organization that collects such information
I keep going back to the 'alive' definition and wondering about definition #2. continuing to exist. I need to stop and get to work. This is the kind of bullshit I'm thinking about when I should be focusing on running my daily reports and transferring inventory to the appropriate branches.
The truth may be puzzling. It may take some work to grapple with. It may be counterintuitive. It may contradict deeply held prejudices. It may not be consonant with what we desperately want to be true. But our preferences do not determine what's true. -Sagan

Jack snacked on a snack-a-jack while cannibals wanted to snack on a jack-a-snack and the birds thought: "That's a good time to snack on a jack-a-snack who is snacking on a snack-a-jack while the birds wheel away and don't care about the crack...."

There is no longer anything to point to beyond, nothing Other, so it points pointlessly to itself.' - Iain McGilChrist
