What exactly is the difference between the cat and you killing the spiders?
And do you really believe that there is no difference between your duty to the poisonous spiders and your cat?

Not looking to get into a big debate. I'm just interested in your answers.

I've just come in to proudly celebrate my 6th year of being a vegetarian and my family genuinely thought it wouldn't last ('cause veganism didn't).

I know you asked this like two years ago but I still wanna answer it. No, there's a difference, I have intelligence to know that it's cruel to hurt animals, my cat doesn't. When I first received my cat, I was really stupid, I used chase her down and stop her from attacking crows after she'd just eaten - then the logic bullet hit me I realised that I shouldn't interfere with mother nature. She doesn't know any better, what she's doing is instinctual. So if I see her with a spider, I leave her to do what she wants but if I get to it first, I'll try to get it into a jar and back into nature... sometimes anyway.

I'm probably not the best vegetarian to argue against, I don't believe it's essentially wrong to eat meat. I believe that mass meat production is terrible for the environment and that people consume too much.

I lapsed into a carnivorous state a couple years ago. I'm going vegan for Lent though so we'll see how I feel on the other side of April 1.

@ people who are vegetarian who frequently have vegetarian meals: do you constantly feel hungry, do you have issues with excess weight?

^ I know a veg vegetarians who are either chubby or super thin.

Carbs are digested faster, much faster than meat. So it's likely that after having a vege meal you feel hunger faster than after a meal with meat. Everytime I have a vege meal I feel hungry only a few hours afterwards. Maybe it's psychological.
