I liked the idea, but then the film did so little interesting with it. I'm sorry, highlander.

Ok, so here's my issue with the 'Highlander' universe: take another comparable sci-fi movie that got turned into a series: 'Stargate'.

Now, 'Stargate' developed a mythology that ended up tying into all kinds of different shit: aliens, ancient Egyptian mythology, Norse mythology, religion, the history of mankind, master-slave dialectic, alternate universes, science vs magic vs religion, etc.

That's a lot of cool shit. It provides a robustness to the mythology, which is why the franchise has been so successful (I haven't really watched most of it, but I've been amazed to see how many different shows and movies it's spawned).

Highlander, on the other hand, "pang!"... it just has no robustness to its mythology... which lends this "hollow" quality to almost every one of its manifestations (even the tv series, which I kind of enjoyed)...

Does anybody else know what I'm talking about? Do you experience that hollowness, too?

    Exactly!

It had so much potential, but then... "pang!"

I actually look to our esteemed forum member for possible redemption for what-could-have-been-a-promising-franchise's 25 years of suckitude...

I give the original movie, the first couple of years of the TV series, and the forum member high marks.
