Over the lunch hour I went to Walgreens to buy some, um, prophylactics. I generally go to the next furthest one, just to avoid any awkward run-ins with coworkers. Usually some old Chinese dude checks out my purchases, he barely even acknowledges that I'm there, let alone what I'm buying. I was in a slightly cranky mood, and also I got redirected to check out at the cosmetics counter. The dude had to say, "Man, why do you look so sad? Being safe is something worth being happy about! It's like that umbrella song!" The person in line besides me had a chuckle and so did the other checker. I also did, I guess this sort of thing isn't mortifying to my old-ass self and it ended up lightening my mood.

To avoid criticism, do nothing, say nothing, be nothing.
    ~ Elbert Hubbard

Music provides one of the clearest examples of a much deeper relation between mathematics and human experience.
