I speak with a Lower Midwestern accent... though I'm frequently told that I sound like I'm from PA instead

I grew up in an area where a rural midwestern accent was spoken but somehow it never stuck and I've never spoken with my native accent... even though it would be cool to have a more noticable accent like that and not sound like a TV newscaster every time I speak! :steam:

I bet your accent's pure gold. I'm not sure I'd be able to resist trying to get you to say "I ask the questions!"

Kenyan. I wouldn't know how to describe it except some online quiz told me it was close to a Bostonian accent. (cuh rather than car, watuh rather than water... etc). And oh, I heard of one of my countrymen being accused of cursing by an American restaurant server after he asked her for a "fork and knife".

For some reason, most Kenyans ask me if I've been British-educated which I find odd because the closest I've been to Britain is Toulouse.

I have some variation of a Southern US accent. You would probably think I sound "southern" and leave it at that. When I am listening to others, I can pick out a general area of the south (I can usually tell apart Texas, Louisianan, Carolinas to some extent), but I don't know if I sound like any certain area of the south.

There is a video of me in the video challenge thread if you want to listen for yourself. http://www.typologycentral.com/forum...ml#post1171558

What I hate is that there is a perception that having a southern accent means you are stupid.
