Psychiatry has it's problems - but so does every other area of medicine. Psychiatry is at least based on science even if it does deal with certain aspects of human behavior etc that have not been full quantified yet.

Scientology on the other hand is basically a science fiction novel converted to a for profit religion. There really isn't much of a comparison here. While psychiatry may still have many unanswered questions it isn't a collection of thoughts pulled from the ass imagination of some random guy.

Apparently, "recovering" Meth heads like to ground Ritalin into powder and sniff it. I don't know which is worse; that I was gullible enough to believe that my friend only wanted it to stay up for the party, or that I could have made some beer money off those pills instead of giving them away for free...

So I thought, hey Psychiatry doesn't seem that bad.

Then I hear all this stuff about psychiatry that just seems so against it. Major one was Scientology.

And thus, I started researching both...

So now I'm just asking for your views on BOTH of these two, and what you think is 'right'? Do you think that they should both be eliminated, or both be kept? Or one over the other?
Ummm...please don't go into scientology. It is the biggest pseudo new age scam ever. I went to an orientation with them once and I was shown a video of a man explaining emphatically how psychiatrists were the single worst enemies of mankind and the pulp science fiction writer who created Scientology was man's greatest friend. There was also a monkey on god's shoulder that was supposed to be 'mankind'. Overall...it's a joke if you are serious about self-improvement or 'healing the mind'.

There are many forms of legitimate therapy, I would look into it. I would even look at OTHER new age methods if you are so inclined, just not scientology.

Lexipro was the one I dropped, because I just didn't "feel right" on it; I couldn't pinpoint what was wrong, I just had this general uneasiness. My shrink let me without argument... but it took me two tries. The first time, I lasted a week -- I had severe cotton-headedness/dizziness and I couldn't focus on anything. The second time I toughed it out and it took me honestly about 5-6 weeks before all the discontinuation effects ended. That was pretty awful.

In contrast, I had no side effects (starting, stopping, or on) Wellbutrin.

Unfortunately, everyone's different in their individual chemistry and it's hard to predict specific results in a particular individual, there's just known "general results."
