Yeah.. to be even safer you could put a big sticker on the side of your car that says "Kids under 16 with no car and driver's license drop your illegal/prescription drugs off here and we will take them to the drug drop off box for you" - you could totally get some rave music or something and flashy lights and drive through suburban neighborhoods (which I'll assume are a reasonable distance away from the drug drop off boxes?) like a sort of ice cream man.... Then if you ever got stopped with drugs in your car you could always claim that "these drugs aren't mine officer, srsly"....

edit: on a serious note I think it would probably be smarter if cops just stopped busting people with personal use amounts on them. I've never done drugs and don't ever plan to, but really drug addicts don't typically think straight I can't imagine there won't be crazy drug fiends just waiting to jump some dumb high school kid trying to get rid of the vicodin stash he stole from his mom before school... and many other similar scenarios....

Like whatever said, seems like a "drug pickup box" to me.... it seems the same people working on the war on drugs - that recently became unemployed (given their awesome success) are now working on the oil spill.

Are we talking policy-wise? Or stupid decisions in general?

You would make an excellent criminal... way to cover all angles. . the ironic thing is that this isn't that insane of an idea.. someone crazy enough to do this could probably get away with it with a good lawyer because it would create enough 'reasonable doubt.'

exactly.. even setting it up this way for prescriptions only is a bad idea because of the scenarios you stated above.. We also asked the officer, "Who's the genius that came up with that idea?" and he went off on a rant... He was like, "Some white collar pencil pushing idiot who never saw a day on the streets and etc etc. etc." I think even he was embarrassed about the idea.

If its such a good idea then why have they found absolutely nothing? All they did was put more power in the hands of the criminal.
Its going to cut the amount of arrests and paperwork in half if everyone found in possession doesnt have to be processed but has to simply give the police or be escorted to a drop off.

Without a change in law this gives people found in possession who're willing to sacrifice their drugs a means to get out of imprisonment while still taking the drugs out of circulation, which could be the important thing anyway. Prison isnt rehab. Although I can understand why it would bother a cop who wants to make some busts.

this is supposed to be a voluntary thing..they don't plan on making this an option after arrest.. they don't plan on making it an option to avoid jail.. That's not their idea behind this at all. they aren't planning to give criminals the option to be escorted to a drop off box. if anything this will create more problems and paperwork because now they just provided criminals with a defense in court to plead not guilty with when normally they would've just pleaded guilty.

The cop we spoke with wasn't upset about the idea of things resulting in "less busts".. he was upset with the fact that now criminals have been provided a defense when they could've went about this idea a better way.

Oh, it's for prescription drugs it looks like. They probably added in the illegal drugs as a way for someone that finds drugs that doesn't want to use them to get rid of them without anyone else using them or something. I would only hope that was the rationale...

Its funny actually... they have several boxes for different things.. one is labeled syringes only... another one says narcotics only... another says marijuana only etc. Even if their rationale is the one you say though... it's still a pretty bad idea of how to go about it.

You know I have funny feeling that the one putting empty bottles in the drug boxes is another cop. That would be so perfect lol.
