When I am drifting off to sleep, I enter the hypnogogic state, just as I do when I am waking up

The hypnogogic trance is a trance like any other.

And the salient characteristic of any trance is that the critical faculties are progressively turned off. And the creative faculties are progressively turned on.

However the hypnogogic trance is interesting because not only does it progressively turn off the critical faculties, but it also turns of the physical faculities.

The physical faculties are progressively turned off during the hypnogogic trance until even our muscles are turned off.

However one of the last faculties to be turned off is hearing, as hearing is a warning signal at night for leopards or snakes. And those who naturally turned off their hearing last were the one's who survived and passed their genes onto their children and finally to us.

That is why your hearing tuns off last.

But if you become a trance designer, you can design which critical faculties will be turned off, and in which order. And you can design which physical faculties will be turned off, and in which order.

And as you turn your critical faculties off, you can decide which of your creative faculties you wish to turn on.

Falling asleep introduces us naturally to trance. However there is no reason not to take this into our own hands and design our own trances.

Limiting oneself to the natural hypnogogic trance is like walking around au naturale.

You don't walk around naturally in your birthday suit, you wear designer clothes.

So why walk around psychologically naked, when you could clothe your mind in a designer trance?

If I'm fighting to stay awake I start sleeping into the alternate reality of my mind. A dream.

I don't see any bad imagery, I just think about things I like.
