Ever had queries such as "Someone recommend a good laptop for me. I need a 30" screen and a ZIP drive reader. Thanks!" Ever wanted to subtly brag about your computer skills by recommending Gentoo as the solution to all problems? Well, boy; do we have a thread for you!!

Mods, if this subforum isn't the right place for this, please move it

Shattered the everloving hell out of the screen on my S5. Pretty sure I already got microscopic glass shards in my thumb. Looking at a Nexus 5X, I guess, but I'm open to other stuff.

  • Gotta get myself an Android.
  • Highest priority is a good quality and responsive camera (on account of kid and precious memories blah blah etc)
  • I do fancypants stuff such as hooking it all up to Chromecast and streaming all throughout the whole house. Native support for said fancy stuff would be fine, but I'm sure I could MacGuyver up a setup with phones that don't have those features.
  • Expandable storage would be nice, but so would a freaking unicorn. That's, sadly, negotiable.
  • I'm a tightwad and somewhat sensitive to price.
  • I've dealt with a variety of phone sizes (old Nexus to Note 3) and so I don't particularly care about that. In fact, I have a huge expandable battery on my S5 that protrudes out the back and comes with its own back case shell, and the bulkiness actually makes it more comfortable to me. So
  • I guess I'm kind of burned out of caring about specific hardware specs (e.g. 808 over 807!! yeah!! whatever that means!!) but I don't want something that runs like the PDA I had in high school.

please advice to me

Not really a device recommendation, but have you tried a tempered glass cover? I have one on my iPhone, which I drop countless times, and it's held up fine.

... That's all I got. I'm an iPhone devotee.

LG and now the S7 have expandable storage.. Sometimes the carriers will let you trade in your old phone for a gift card towards a new phone.

I guess it depends most on the UI of each skin.

Wait . . . are you looking for a laptop, or a phone?

My #1 recommendation in either case: avoid i-things at all costs.

I should probably do this, yeah :(

I've heard that the S7 fixed a lot of things that the S6 totally botched. Pricey but may be worth a look.

UI doesn't particularly matter to me. If I don't like the default, I'll root the thing and put whatever OS I want on it anyway.

There we go. I clarified the OP, and thus also my post below it I guess.

(Also wanted to make sure that the recommenders felt welcome.)
