A second FDA approval frees Theranos to do a blood test outside lab

Theranos’s tests have two signature features. First, they generally cost less than those of competitors. (The company has committed not to charge more than half the Medicare reimbursement rate.) Second, for most of the hundreds of tests it performs, the company uses just a few drops of blood drawn from a pricked finger, rather than taking, as competitors do, a vial or two of blood using a needle in the arm, known as venipuncture.

No more painful needles in the arms. Just a couple drops is enough and they charge 50 to 70% less than traditional blood diagnostic labs. I read a book about this company (The Patient Will See You Now by Eric Topol) and they allegedly have a deal to offer the service to every Walgreens in the nation. Now, people can determine their cholesterol, sodium, calcium, bilirubin, albumin levels on their own without a physician's approval. Thank you Ms. Holmes.

Holmes is old news. And people have had the ability to order their own lab work online for many years. It's what I do.

From what I read, the results would be ready in minutes at the local Walgreens. Jaguar how much blood did it take to do your tests?

Here we go:

Theranos Lab Testing at Walgreens

TheranosTM Wellness Centers are located inside select Walgreens in the greater Phoenix, AZ area and Palo Alto, CA—with more locations opening soon. With extended hours, including nights and weekends it's easy to fit your tests into your busy schedule.

Theranos' CLIA-certified laboratory can analyze samples as small as 1/1,000 the size of the typical blood draw. Their lab can perform tests on any sample type, including blood, urine, and other samples. It's fast, easy, and the highest level of quality.

Total game-changer if they can get CVS and Walmart to offer the service.
