I thought it was high time someone created a thread for those of us who love cars.

So without further ado...

Here are a few pictures I took at the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance a few weeks ago.

IMG-20120310-00045.jpg

This 1956 Ferrari 250 GT Coupe Speciale went for 1.3 million at the auction.

IMG-20120310-00046.jpg

Here is an excellent example of a 1965 Aston Martin DB5 Vantage Cabriolet. This car went for 1.1 million.

IMG-20120310-00055.jpg

Here is a beautiful '72 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Spyder. It also went for 1.1
*interesting fact, this car with a hard top will only sell for 400k at auction*

FernandinaBeach-20120310-00047.jpg

This immaculate '60 Mercedes 300 SL Roadster was incredible to see in person. This black roadster was one of 2 300sl's at the auction and went for 900k.
*this car is considered by many (aka Jeremy Clarkson) to be the world's first true supercar*

FernandinaBeach-20120310-00053.jpg

This 1930 Bugatti Type 46 Superprofile Coupe was one of the most breath taking cars I had ever seen. This thing really needs to be seen in person to be appreciated, or at least photographed by someone of skill.
This Bugatti went for 925k

FernandinaBeach-20120310-00057.jpg

IMG-20120310-00056.jpg

Here we have a 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 Berlinetta. This thing was breathtaking. One of only 330 made, this car was a big step forward for Ferrari. It incorporated many of the styling cues from past cars, while under the skin it was state of the art.
This example went for 1 million dollars.

There was a Cord L-29 there that went for 2.3 million making it the most expensive car on the day.

Here are some photos I took while walking the grounds with my Dad. The thing I love about walking the grounds before the car show is that they are still getting all the cars in place, so you get to see and hear many of them running (which is my favorite part).

FernandinaBeach-20120310-00048.jpg

Here's the ass end of a Veyron that they had parked in front of the Hotel. You could actually take it for a test drive!:horor: It always surprises me how small Veyrons are in person.

FernandinaBeach-20120310-00059.jpg

Here is the brand new Lamborghini Aventador. I'm not a huge Lambo fan, but these things look great in person.

FernandinaBeach-20120310-00049.jpg

This is a Lambo Gallardo Superleggera. You can see another black gallardo in front of it. I must have seen 4 or 5 these while I was there.

IMG-20120310-00051.jpg

In fact, here's another one!

FernandinaBeach-20120310-00066.jpg

FernandinaBeach-20120310-00067.jpg

Here is a 458 Italia Spider they had at the Ferrari stand.

FernandinaBeach-20120310-00065.jpg

Here we have a Team Oreca Viper GTS-R. I love how they didn't wash it after its (obvious) recent stint at the track.

FernandinaBeach-20120310-00050.jpg

My jaw hit the floor when I saw this. Here we have Sebastian Vettel's 2011 championship winning Red Bull F1 car. I'd never seen an F1 car in person before, and I loved getting to see this one. There is no way I could fit in that cockpit.

FernandinaBeach-20120310-00052.jpg

Here we have a 1978 Rondeau M378 Le Mans Race Car. This car really reminded me of the old Porsche 917s.

FernandinaBeach-20120310-00060.jpg

I got to hear this old Corvette Stingray Can Am car running. This thing is a different kind of loud.

FernandinaBeach-20120310-00061.jpg

FernandinaBeach-20120310-00063.jpg

I never found out what this was. But it had a huge crowd around it as soon as it pulled up. From what I remember it had a pretty high strung V-6 mounted amidships with individual throttle bodies. Really wish I could have heard this thing running.

FernandinaBeach-20120310-00058.jpg

Here is an old Alfa Romeo Le Mans car that I did get to hear run. You can get a feel for how small this car is by looking at the guy in it. Needless to say, old race cars don't have the greatest safety record.

FernandinaBeach-20120310-00064.jpg

Here we've got one of the most famous American Race cars, the GT40. I really wish they had one there with the classic Gulf Oil livery.

FernandinaBeach-20120310-00068.jpg

FernandinaBeach-20120310-00069.jpg

FernandinaBeach-20120310-00070.jpg

Here are a couple of Cobra's they had in the Shelby section.

I've saved the best till last. This is my favorite car, though I had never before seen it in person.

The 250 GTO:

FernandinaBeach-20120310-00074.jpg

This example has never been restored wearing the same paint that is wore the day it left the factory in 1962.

And here we have the Piece De Resistance...
FernandinaBeach-20120310-00071.jpg

FernandinaBeach-20120310-00072.jpg

FernandinaBeach-20120310-00073.jpg

I just could not get enough of this car. Seeing these 250 GTO's in person will be a memory I carry with me for the rest of my life.
*The last one of these that came up for sale went for 32 million*

I've been going every year with my Dad as far back as I can remember.

That's a Ferrari 512S. It has a 5.0 L V12; that's why it's called 512. You can see 10 of the 12 intake trumpets underneath the engine cover.

I think the Lamborghini Aventador looks great. It has much more of a classic Lamborghini look than the Gallardo and Murcielago, IMHO.

I good friend of mine had never seen Top Gear (BBC), so this afternon after church he came over and we had a Top Gear marathon. :D We got through the first 4 episodes of series 10.

Here's the video I made of my 2010 Mustang GT. My 1997 Mustang GT is in the background.

For a long time I was into hot rods.. I dreamed about this. Model T, dropped axle, tricked out flathead Ford engine. It's still pretty cool, but it's not me.

I want to start building an e36 m3 track car in the next two or three years.

I would like the end product to look something like this and be street legal.

I would probably strip out the interior a little more, and probably get a little more aggressive with my engine tuning.

IMHO, you should get a GT40 instead: http://www.superformance.com/gt40.aspx :happy2:

As much as I would love a gt40 kit car, the pricing on one of those including the engine and drive train, has to be beyond my means.

I chose the e36 because that iteration of the M3 is pretty cheap to lay your hands on, between 3 and 7 grand for a fairly clean one. And there is strong aftermarket support for it.

I also want the car to be a refresher course on mechanics for me. I haven't worked on a car since I helped a buddy of mine pull an engine out of his old Nova in college.

If I was going to go the kit car route, I'd definitely pursue fun over flashy.

I would love to get something like this:

That's not a Model T... That's quite obviously based on a '32 Ford Model 18 or Model B.
