I have just signed up to OpenDNS.com and connected my computer and my dynamic ISP to OpenDNS.

I have read the description of OpenDNS but I am not quite sure what it means.

So I was wondering does anybody here know what OpenDNS does?

With thanks, Victor.

Essentially, your DNS is like your internet switchboard. Sites like OpenDNS and even Google have their own DNS servers which make web browsing generally speedier and, in the case of OpenDNS, a bit safer as they pre-screen for phishing and scam sites.

Apart from what JocktheMotie says, it helps you bypass the web filters of your work and school computers.

In another words, it allows you to visit the sites that the IT guys have blocked, like Facebook or Twitter.
