I'm not really excited.
It's just Chrome running on a linuxkernel, without old "PC like" clutter like Bios etc, thus making it boot significantly faster.
And there will not be any specific applications for chrome os either, as any browser could run them.
It is more of an "on the go" os that enables fast and easy webaccess on e.g. netbooks or similar devices in the 9"-10" segment. More convenient than a mobile for webworking, unable to run any dedicated applications like cad software, photoshop and the likes.
I'm more excited about the hardware that will put this to use.

I have to admit, I do like Google Chrome. Aside from the privacy issues people have raised with Google, it does seem to be a better browser than IE or Firefox. Google's stuff is always a cut above the rest.
I imagine Google Chrome OS will be a lot like the browser... only it won't require a whole operating system underneath. I was wondering how long it would take before they made a computer that wasn't designed for anything but Internet Access, because that's all that many people use it for anyway. Problem is that many plug-ins have to be downloaded, and are built for specific operating systems. I look forward to seeing how they handle plug-in updates, or plug-ins that weren't anticipated.
