Okay, I've seen some of these are quite wrong... Let me clarify what I KNOW.

Thom Yorke, INTP (not INFP, listen to his lyrics. They're about things that makes sense to things other than love, feelings, etc. The song 'Creep' is obviously a TERRIBLE example of his normal lyrics. Radiohead's 'My Iron Lung' is about how the song holds them up in the industry, as much as they detest it.)
Johnny Greenwood, INFP (feeler guitarists always are the most innovative, in a unique way.)
Steve Vai, ENTP (common misconception, he may not express himself lyrically but this does not make him an INTP. His stage presence clearly portrays that of an ENTP)
Joe Satriani, INTP (Brilliant type for a guitarist, brilliant guitarist)
Kevin Barnes (Of Montreal), ENTP
Matt Bellamy (Muse), INFJ
Muse, INFx
Avenged Sevenfold - ExxP (Zacky, ESFP. Synyster, INTP. M, ENFP. Rev, INTJ)
Michael Jackson was actually an INFP.

Going through my library...

Brad Sucks - ISFP
The Decemberists - INFJ
Hot Hot Heat - ESFP
The Killers - ISFP
Modest Mouse - ENTP
Neutral Milk Hotel - INFP
The Postal Service - infp
Radiohead - INTP
R.E.M. - ENTP
The Shins - Varied, but their song "Caring is Creepy" is 100% INTJ to me.
Snow Patrol - ISFJ

I am not sure about most of these, feel free to correct me.

"Queens of the Stone Age: ISTJ"
They seem much too imaginative to me to be ISTJ-like. Maybe ISTP.

I can see that. Ni lyrics. Like wtf did that come from?

I'm not sure how accurately a band's music can be typed, or how accurately you can predict what types will like what bands. I just don't see the connecting thread. For instance, I noted all the bands that were typed INTJ throughout the thread...

Kraftwerk
Joy Division
The Shins
Henry Rollins
Eminem
Rush
Radiohead
The National

I'll throw out The National, because I've never heard any of their songs. But of the seven remaining artists, Rush is the only one I like, and probably even the only one I don't actively dislike. I think the entire concept of the OP relies on lyrics as the primary reason why someone likes the music they like. And I think that in reality, lyrics are a very minor reason why a person likes the music they like.

My impression is that this thread is rather focused on typing the overall "vibe", or "atmosphere" of the bands. Lyrics are a big part of it, but not the only one. Anyway, sure you can't really "type" a band; this is more of a game than anything else :)

The only band I'd attempt to assign a type to are The Arcade Fire. Everything about them positively screams INFx to me. I've never felt any other music so deeply; certainly not any of the bands' that are typed INFP here :alttongue:

Radiohead: BORING

My mother said that tastes may differ and blah blah blah, but ARE YOU CRAZY?

Definitely one of my all time favorite bands! And I agree with one of the posts before that typed them as NT.

Just a question, what makes a band 'E' or 'I'? is it their popularity? how experimental they are?

It's hard to measure this stuff with bands, but I'd guess it's tone (lyrical and musical), themes and perspectives presented in songs, mostly.

AC/DC- ESTP

What type is Pearl Jam?

I see an ISFP in Vedder at least..he's introspective, but earthy/visceral. The band's kind of the same way (otoh, some isfp artists are quirky and "stylish"..for lack of a better word atm).

Social Distortion -ISTP
No Doubt-ESFP (not sure..Gwen seems more ENFP..but listing NSYNC for ESFPs is messed up..true or not)
Elliott Smith -INFP
Queen-ENFJ

I=proclivity to write themes that veer towards introspection/distinction/how or what defines self..drawing stories back to how one relates to it?

E= involvement/celebration/unification/...ummm..don't know actually :tongue:

just a thought..

Mh....I cannot really agree with The Killers as ISFP....except maybe for the last album....but.... especially not for Sam's Town....even though I don't have a fitting suggestion....

The Dresden Dolls - I agree with either INXJ, or otherwise ENFP or XNXP

some bands i always felt a connection to through lyrics:

Cursive
mewithoutYou
Brand New
The Lawrence Arms (Chris's lyrics, not Brendan's)
Motion City Soundtrack
i'd type all of these as INFP just for lyrical content
