Emerson's essay, "Self Reliance", had a huge impact on me. I was 16 when I read it and was absolutely blown away by it!!!

:D

I could never get into Thoreau's "Walden", however, I was 16 when I attempted to read it, and I thought it was sloooooooww, and a bit boring.

I'm in the same boat; I think there is a sincerity about Emerson that is inspiring and interesting, where as Thoreau holds a cynical approach which is hard to get behind! What do you think of their types?... I was thinking Thoreau might be INTP/INTJ and Emerson would be NF, but not sure past that...

Emerson ENFP

Thoreau INP

Them is my guesses!

Great discussion. I was interested in Thoreau's type and did a search first. I wondered if he was INTP. But my consciousness immediately said, maybe INFJ as with Jung and others. He talks about morality... Writes very beautifully, a clear and formulatively strong style. Let's go for INtP as far.

I read Walden in summer when I was 24 and was so inspired that I decided I wanted to go study environmental philosophy and did so for a short while.

after reading civil disobedience i consider myself to align politically with Thoreau... as far as walden... i think his ideas are admirable and refreshingly logical... i wish i could wonder off into obscurity, but hey- it would be much harder to live off of a pond and be vegan.

I would guess intp.

That's more like it.

I say INTP for the T-man as well.
