I decided to start this thread because I'm absolutely convinced that Howard Jones is an xNFJ (but is he ENFJ or INFJ?) yet am equally convinced that there aren't enough people who give a flying fuck about Howard Jones to make it a good thread.

Sooooo...80's New Wave/Synth Pop Musicians in general. I think this will be fun because I love this genre of music.

That's a very good list. I definitely think Aimee Mann is some kind of FP. I was watching the video for "Voices Carry" and thinking it was an archetypal ENFP/ISTJ interaction ... that doesn't mean she's ENFP, it's art, but I definitely think she's some kind of FP.

I also think Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders is ISTP, even though they're more post-punk than new wave.

I definitely agree on David Byrne. I'm not sure about Bryan Ferry one way or the other, but NF definitely seems correct.

My general impressions of the bands/artists you've mentioned that I am familiar with:

Howard Jones - xNFJ definitely. It's a bit fuzzy to tell if he's an extrovert or introvert for sure, but I would lean a bit more towards ENFJ... seems more expressive of Fe based values in his songs.

Boy George - xSFP, Enneagram 4 (yep, he's a 4... seems more exhibitionist to me, more outwardly expressing himself, so I am tempted to say ESFP for him)

Annie Lennox (Eurythmics) - She's been typed at a 4w3. Her music reads like Fi to me... so I would lean towards INFP.

Thomas Dolby - INTP, enneagram 5w6. His work is more cerebral.

The Pet Shop Boys... Neil Tennant seems like an INTJ or INTP 3w4 to me. Not sure about the other members, but the music seems like NT in touch with tertiary Fi to me. Tennant's voice in general sounds very INTJ-ish.

Thompson Twins- I'm unsure about their type, but I'm going to go with SP type for them.

Tears for Fears: In general, they seem more Fe-based to me. Possibilities: ESFJ, ENFJ, or INFJ.

Nik Kershaw: INFJ (or ISFJ) 4w5 so/sp.

Yeah Pat Benatar looks F next to Chrissie Hynde, like soooo much, like totally ISFP to her ISTP (I've thought this for quite some time now) but your comparison of their enneagram really makes sense. 3w4 sp/sx also makes sense for Sting, I think.

The majority of your typings (not just in this thread) is either 5w4 or 4w5. These two are the rarest of enneagram types, and I find it hard to agree with you.

Yes, and it's partly because he follows Socionics. I had the worst time understanding why the fuck he'd type Prince as an INFJ until he finally hinted he was describing a Socionics INFj.

It's irritating. Howard Jones would be INFJ before INFP, but of course our friend here follows Socionics.
