I know personal opinions will vary. But, I want to know what 3 types most likely fit the mould of the Byronic hero.

Characteristics:
A strong sense of arrogance
High Intelligence and intuition
A troubled past
Introspective and self-critical
Mysterious and Charismatic
Cynicism
A distaste for social norms

I would say that INTJ is a perfect type for them (see Heathcliff), followed by ENTP (like Byron himself) and ENTJ.

Nah, MacGuffin, Byronic heroes include Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights , Mr. Rochester from Jane Eyre , and the title character from Pushkin's Eugene Onegin ...all INTJs.

I mean, some of them might be ENTJ or ENTP, if we look at all of these works of literature. But ENFP? Who is an ENFP Byronic hero?

You apparently missed part of the definition: "Mysterious and Charismatic"

Charismatic

They all kind of sound like damaged Fs to me in a way.

Dude, I majored in literature. Most Byronic heroes are INTJs. I'm sure some are ENTPs, I could see that, but in books I don't prefer as strongly.

But if you can actually produce an ENFP, I'd be most pleased.

I agree. The only character that fits the model of a Byronic hero that may be a feeler is the Phantom of the Opera. I think he's an INFP. But I'm not sure of his type as well, so I won't defend this idea too much. An ENFP Byronic hero would be very difficult to find, I've never seen an example myself.

That's funny considering that you used to apply this label to yourself. Did you change type again?
Thanks for the laugh.

I agree with that! They look damaged Fs!
I think a byronic hero could easily be an extremely pessimistic ENFJ with a troubled past... Unhealthy, maybe... There isn't a MBTI type that we could just describe as someone "byronic", the person should have some natural characteristics and get some others along it's life.

Well, "inteligent" anyone can be, but let's see the other caracteristics:
- ENFJs are usually very charismatic and educated, I think that's maybe because of their dom Fe.
- They can be very guarded.
- They are N, so obsviously they are intuitive.
- Like all NFs, they can be like "chameleons" and adapt themselves a lot.
- Unhealthy ENFJs can be very moody.
- Because of the troubled past confliting with their want to be genuine and to please people, they can have much emotional conflicts, be very self-critical and get introspective. That could give them some "dark" atributes...
- I think anyone very pessimistic could be cynic...

It just makes sense to me: "troubled byronic ENFJ"...

A strong sense of arrogance

Any type could posses this.

High Intelligence and intuition

Intelligence isn't really type related, intuition mean N of course.

A troubled past

Not type related

Introspective and self-critical

Introvert, or socially isolated extrovert.

Mysterious and Charismatic

This could fit under many different types.

Cynicism
Iintroversion and thinking, although could fit with other types

A distaste for social norms

Probably N

I'd say that almost any type could be a Byronic Hero, with INTJ being the most likely, and other types coming afterwards, SJ's least likely. although still possible. Also if anyone wants an example of an INFP byronic hero, there's always me.

a strong sense of arrogance
high level of intelligence and perception
cunning and able to adapt
suffering from an unnamed crime
a troubled past
sophisticated and educated
self-critical and introspective
mysterious, magnetic and charismatic
struggling with integrity
power of seduction and sexual attraction
social and sexual dominance
emotional conflicts, bipolar tendencies, or moodiness
a distaste for social institutions and norms
being an exile, an outcast, or an outlaw
"dark" attributes not normally associated with a hero
disrespect of rank and privilege
jaded, world-weary
cynicism
self-destructive behavior

a strong sense of arrogance (T? Barely type related)
high level of intelligence and perception (correlates with, but is not caused by N)
cunning and able to adapt (likely TP)
suffering from an unnamed crime (unrelated to type)
a troubled past (unrelated to type. Obsessing over it = ni or si)
sophisticated and educated (unrelated to type)
self-critical and introspective (likely IN)
mysterious, magnetic and charismatic (mysterious = I?. Magnetic and Charismatic = E and fe? Barely type related)
struggling with integrity (likely T)
power of seduction and sexual attraction (fe and se? Barely type related)
social and sexual dominance (likely J, but barely type related)
emotional conflicts, bipolar tendencies, or moodiness (F, fi)
a distaste for social institutions and norms (IN, fi, not SJ)
being an exile, an outcast, or an outlaw (If it's somehow self imposed, I. Otherwise unrelated to type)
"dark" attributes not normally associated with a hero (T? Barely type related)
disrespect of rank and privilege (fi, not SJ)
jaded, world-weary (likely T, but barely type related)
cynicism (likely T)
self-destructive behavior (fi?)

On the whole, very likely I, almost certain N, likely T. Very likely fi.
In order of likeliness:
INTJ (The only type with all 4 markers)
INFP
ENTJ, INTP
INFJ, ENFP
ENTP
ENFJ

Enneagram: 5w4, 4w5, or 4w3.

Emotionalogic - I agree mostly with your list with the exception of struggling with integrity answer. It seems more F or at least equal F and T for different reasons. A strong F may often encounter situations where the only feasible solution or choice involves violating one of their own values and then later on reflect upon their compromise of ethical integrity (probably with a degree of shame.) T's to me seem like they would just get down to the task and if the F functions do turn up they would just suppress them or rationalise them out of existence through stoic and strong logic. F's don't really have this luxury.

Oooh. Now there's a surprise.
Now Byron is INTJ. :rofl1:

I don't know much about him, but I would guess ENFP, like Oscar Wilde. This thread is about Byronic Heros. But then again you've never let simple facts get in the way of insinuating that I only do typology to associate impossibly cool people with my type, thereby assuaging my inferred sense of inadequacy.
