I am getting a little stuck on what movies my ISFP girlfriend likes that I would like too. I was going through my Netflixs favorites list (transfered on my TV via my Xbox) and without knowing girlfriend says switch the lists to another category of movie types [without knowing it was my favorite list I was gleaning through]. The Romeo and Juliet retakes (Shakespeare in Love or Romeo + Juliet) have been pretty successful but not much else (in the sense we stop watching and have sex)

So what types of movies can an INTP(male) and an ISFP (female who tends to like "positive" movies) see together that they will BOTH be captivated with and enjoy?

^Yes Amelie worked pretty good despite she is new to foreign movies. I would like Radio Days but, I don't know if its an ISFP thing, she hates Woody Allen.

For a few suggestions from a movie collection that belongs to an ISTJ and ESTP  (and KDude stole my suggestion of Waking Life... the movie that gave me entirely new things to be paranoid about )

12 monkeys
Darkman
13 conversations about one thing
11:14
Death to Smoochy
Four Rooms
Saved!
Sleuth

and to suggest some old movies that my INTP dad loves:

The African Queen
The Mouse that Roared
Being There

:cheese:

^Its funny I thought that "Being There" would work too but it seemed a little to subtle and the main character too removed for her to get into and she was quick to loose interest and start smooching me instead. Perhaps the distraction of watching in bed and it being an early in the romance/relationship.

As far as movies she picked out I was pretty surprised that I enjoyed was "Young Victoria". We both noted that we enjoyed the series The Tudors and she seemed to like an episode of Spartacus: Blood and Sand...a TV series that I loved. (I guess we both like historical esq. dramas in general)

Have you seen the Rome HBO series? That's the best of the newer cable ones imho.

Yeah! I also was fond of the older I, Claudius BBC series (as well as the book by R. Graves)

West Side story & Purple Rain.

Yeah she (ISFP) loved Purple Rain (and I liked it quite a bit too)!

Darn. West Side Story was being played live at a local theater and it would have been fun to watch (I was not much into the movie but I would have enjoyed seeing it as live theater) but now its over...maybe next time.

Although I tend to be adverse to most romance movies (especially those type of 'chick flicks' which are listed as "romantic comedies" which are tend to be neither) There is a type of romance movie genre that both my ISFP and I (INTP like) those are the movie genre of "romantic period pieces", particularly those based on classic literature (such as the novels of Brontë or Austen).

This may be just my own idiosyncrasy or the 5w4 INTP.

And also I generally don't watch these movies alone but with women.

Since I am a female and ISFP, I thought I'd give my two cents.

The Dead Zone-I liked the tv show... ?
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind-Love! One of my favorites!
Fido-Silly, but entertaining.
Fight Club-Love it! Another favorite!
A Fish Called Wanda-Haven't seen all the way through, but looks good.
Motor Cycle Diaries-Looks good. Haven't seen it though.
Gattaca-Enjoyed it.
The Lost Boys-Good! a classic in my book.
Garden State-Good!
amelie-Another favorite! Fell in love with it.
Avatar-thoroughly enjoyed it in 3-d. Great Se feast.
The Fifth Element-hilarious.
Lost in Translation-... i actually didn't like this one.
Waking Life-love it!
Death to Smoochy-very funny and good.
Four Rooms-I remember liking it... but can't recall too much about this one.
Saved!-thoroughly enjoyed.

Getting hooked on television series together can be a lot of fun, too.
Some I think an INTP might enjoy that I enjoyed:
Avatar the last airbender.
Heroes.
Arrested Development.
Lost.
Twin Peaks.
Mythbusters.
Planet Earth.
Firefly.
The Office.
I'm also currently addicted to Skins (U.K.). IDK is an INTP would enjoy it much...

And off the top of my head, movies...
3:10 To Yuma.
Star Trek movies.
Anything Miyazaki, like My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke.
Akira.
Memories. (anime)

Me and my old INTP roommate actually never ran into problems with movies. We were both pretty open to a wide spectrum. I'd be curious to hear which movies she wasn't so responsive to.

Mid-eighties movie Labyrinth with David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly is one of my favorites. Enchanted is quite good, albeit with a weak ending. The Ring impressed me quite a lot, although I'm now very over scary little girls.

Miyazaki is a mixed bag for me. I loved Spirited Away, but Mononoke left me cold and Nausicaa absolutely gave me hives.
