I have a dear friend who is ENTJ and he enjoys socialising and loud parties with lots of people drinking, dancing and talking about superficial stuff.

Yeah, that sound pretty good. No more than once every two weeks though, otherwise it gets boring. People you do this stuff with need to be cool (I mean, people you get along with very well), otherwise it can end badly - drinking is also not good for your body. Some other stuff I consider as fun: climbing mountains, cycling downhill very quickly (that's dangerous, I don't do it often at all), listening to very loud music. Keep in mind I'm a rather extreme E: my score on MBTI tests hovers around 95-99 % E over I.

My idea of fun is a few people to whom I feel close (or maybe an interesting couple of people I have never met) having a few quiet drinks and maybe a meal at one of our homes, then talking about meaty topics while listening to good music in the background.

I would consider that as "enjoyable", however the intensity of the experience would be lower. I think my ISFJ girlfriend would agree with you, though. :)

I'm and E, but, I'm ENFP and I go back and forth between Extroverted and Introverted depending on my mood and what's happening around me. So what is fun depends on my mood and what is happening around me.

If I could sum it up in one word, I'd say, variety. I find a lot of things fun, and get bored if I do one thing too much.

Things that I find fun:
-Insatiable Curiostiy, your idea of fun is definitely up my alley.
-Playing board games in a medium size group
-Hanging out with or talking on the phone with another NFP all night
-sex
-going out dancing at a club
-performing
-being entertained by books, tv, movies, music etc
-turning up the music and just co-existing with my husband while we cook, clean, work on projects etc. (this happens rarely, but I love it when it does)
-learning with my son
-learning about new things
-researching a new idea and then doing something with it
-gardening, being around nature (but nothing as drastic as camping or something)
-talking to whoever will listen ;)
-I could go on and on, but I won't.

Sometimes I want to be alone and enjoy myself, but I love haning it with one other person, small groups. medium groups, and if the atmosphere and activity is right I love being center stage in a big group.

Why do you have X, if you know your an enfp. By the way, I'm enfp, who loves being alone- mostly dictating by mood, that's a normal trait of enfps. We're knew as the introverts of the extroverts.

As I scan down this list I notice that Lady X is the only E responding but that mostly I can identify with the "I"s perspective of fun that other members have shared. Are there any other "E"s who would care to share or if Lady X would elaborate please?

There IS no right or wrong answer here, only the issue of what drives another's enjoyment :)

hey...yeah i just meant that i can have fun anywhere depending on my mood. when i'm in a great mood i can have fun in the car with my sister or the grocery store with a friend...but i guess that's not really what ya meant.

but i guess the point is...the kind of fun i want depends on my mood. i love having a few close friends over for dinner and wine and great conversation...but i also love meeting a group of friends out at a crowded bar/club and drinking and dancing...and i love live shows or stand up comedy places...i love performance art...outside festivals are one of my favorites...lots of people, music, drinks, food and things to look at and do....i also love road trips with a friend or two...anything that involves exploring and adventure of some kind...i also love water...being on a boat..swimming..going to the beach...

so...i guess anytime i'm indulging my interests or enjoying my company or just in a really ridiculously happy mood i'm having fun.

Fun is when you are into some activity. With or without people.

Movies, music, Saturday night, weight training, reading, drawing, drinking, posting, making, thinking...

climbing things like trees or the house and enjoying the view from the top

hiking... alone :ninja:

I used to really enjoy rock climbing and spelunking as well... I love the way you can work your muscles, and I love the cool of caves as well :wubbie:

sex

exploring places I haven't been before... especially if it's after dark and they're reputed to be haunted :cheese:

people watching with someone who really knows how to comment snarkily

I consider a variety of activities fun as long as I am with one - four close friends. More than that and it gets a bit overcrowded for intimate conversations and sometimes I just drift off by myself if I am not engaged in the current conversation. With a small group, you can have more control over what is being done and what is being said. When you have to consider the needs of a whole group, you don't talk as much and don't have as much say whereas in a three-friend group, most of the time, everyone is satisfied.

I am up for almost anything. Festivals, cafes, beaches, parks, just walking around town eating ice cream, etc, etc, etc.

I enjoy hanging out with people. I prefer larger crowds, like at a party or a show, but largely it depends on what kind of people I'm surrounded by. I really enjoy just sitting in a coffee shop at the mall with a close friend and just people-watch and make silly comments on all the people that walk by. Crazy things are fun to do, too, but I prefer not doing fun things alone, and nobody seems to want to join me in my crazy endeavors. If I really want to do 'insert crazy activity', then I'll do it without them, but that's only if I realllly want to do it.

For me, fun is when life takes a twist that is wonderful, revelatory, and totally unexpected.

Meeting a complete stranger who changes your life in one conversation

Changing the life of a complete stranger in one conversation

Recognizing a truth about life that you never knew before

Engaging, interesting conversations about the world with engaging, interesting, and loving people

Expressing yourself for who you truly are and being understood

When people take on your causes and values as if they are their own

Fun is every moment where you feel your life just lift up and take off.

Oh, and also being in meaningful places with meaningful people when meaningful things are happening.

I am curious - what is your idea of fun - is it determined by your typological preferences or something else entirely, or a combination of both?

Hanging out with my friends or going new places and meeting strangers for fun

Listening to good music loudly, preferably in places folks don't expect to hear it

Trying new and interesting foods

Drinking good red wine

Going to the beach, getting some sun, chilling out

Taking a drive in my car to wherever

Going to live sporting events

Giving presentations, teaching classes, preaching to large groups of people

Working out

Landscaping

Designing Aquariums (Reef or Freshwater)

Building things then painting them to make functional and ornate masterpieces

Building music studios from computers, software, and some peripherals

Making DJ remix CDs

Reading magazines

You know, "just stuff!"

-Kinky sex
-Getting dressed up all fancy and going to some event (concert, ballet, play...)
-Smoking hookah at a lounge
-Going to interesting restaurants
-Playing arcade games at low key pubs (eff yeah Buck Hunter)
-Going to the movies or renting one
-Short out of town road trips
-Shopping (when I can afford it anyways)
-Drinking with a group of friends at home
-Bar hoping. I love starting off an evening at a restaurant and then going to say a martini lounge, strip joint, and then a sheesha lounge. Just enough variety to keep me engaged and not wandering off to gaga land.
-Volleyball, hiking, biking (all with at least one friend)
-I don't enjoy clubbing unless I've got a talented friend to dance with, but I do love going to salsa at Mexican joints
-Smoking pot and laying around in my floaty boat on the beach all day
-Baseball games, basketball games
-Traveling is my favorite
-I like cooking for my girlfriends
-Watching comedy live or streaming online
-Any kind of new fun event that I can explore. Huge crowds are exciting. I usually need a close friend or booze to relax a bit though.

I think I have too much fun these days lol I need to find more work.

wow very interesting topic , but why is it here?? in this forum?

i consider fun laughing, joking, enjoying life in a way that i dont have a plan what will i do, and i go out and just cruise around without plan and without idea when will i get home (thats important part not to know the plan), and when juggle with few stuff at once, it's very fun.
adventures. trying new stuff. exploring.

mostly when i dont know about tomorrow, dont have obligations. yeah. and when i do everything i want

of course adults cant do this often :(

i'd like to do this now....that's in beautiful Dubrovnik..mmm:wubbie:
