Michael: ILI-Te 5w6 sx/so. His main passion is avarice. Michael constantly withholds him self from relationships and goes full-on schizoid by part 2. Conserving energy constitutes his core area of fixation. His core strategy is knowledge-seeking...he takes a position of distrust towards his own gut instincts and relies entirely upon reason and foresight. In the ending of Godfather I, Michael needs that extra bit of clarity from Carlo before he can content himself to kill Carlo. Puzo makes the point that Michael doubts his own instincts/gut in that part of the book -- and the other men note it as a leadership weakness his father Vito did not have. In Godfather 2, Michael must know the identity of the conspirators. This puts his E5 core action set on full display -- staying detached and outside of the action. It was his naturally subdued schizoid restraint that provoked Hyman Roth into vomiting out the truth. In contrast, exercising power constitutes the core area of fixation for type eight, picking off the competition/inflicting pain/ruthless expedience the core action set, and dominance the core strategy. Thus, it would have been a much different movie if Michael was an 8. An 8 mob boss would have exploited the conspiracy on his life for the purpose of eliminating/framing competitors/rivals by extracting false confessions through intimidation and torture and/or the threat thereof. Vito: LIE-Te 8w9 sp/so. Exercising power constitutes his area of fixation/interest. The opening scene shows him masterfully exercising power over Amerigo Bonasera (the undertaker). Vito's core strategy is dominance...the Undertaker must first humiliate himself in open displays of submission and deference in order for Vito to grant Bonasera's favor. Vito also refuses to back down to Don Fanucci and uses the murder of Don Fanucci to expediently catapult himself to the top of the food chain. As a 9 winger, Vito is more heavily involved in the consolidation of his own territory. Either play by his rules or disappear. Puzo's book notes that some Chicago gangsters were delivered back to Chicago in pieces after trying to muscle in on Vito's turf. For socionics type, Vito's decisions are based upon sound cold, business logic...he's always calculating and playing the percentages. Sonny is SEE-Se 6w7 so/sx. Rivalry/Vendetta constitutes his core area of fixation. He's too out of control and ineffective as a mob boss for an 8w7. He constantly falls behind the 8-ball due to interpersonal conflicts and takes everything too personal. Puzo's book elaborated that Sonny lacked the willpower to make his own path in life. Eights have the temperament for outmuscling, outmaneuvering and outwitting their way to the top of the mountain which is a pre-requisite for prevailing in the power game....sonny can only outmuscle people but is easily outwitted/outmaneuvered. That's not good enough. The 7 wing makes him a pugnacious complainer and prone to engage in assertive bluffing...a Mike Tyson. The stud, cock of the walk. For Socionics type, Sonny is an obvious feeler...he responds to everything with value judgments. His devotion towards the sister also makes it easy for Barzini and the other mob bosses to walk him into a death trap. Obviously tritype is not realistic...Three different personality types cannot co-exist in the same person unless that person suffers from multiple personality disorder and even then the other two "personalities" might just be creations of the dominant personality. Vito, Michael and Sonny all looked all pretty on point for the inner logic of those enneagram character types, so realistic...good examples. Source:
