Default London's Murder Rate is Now Higher than New York's

London murder rate overtakes New York as knife crime rises

Gun violence is much less of a problem in Britain, which has strict gun control laws, than in the United States, and most British police are not equipped with firearms.

But British politicians and police are increasingly expressing concern about London’s rising murder rate, which is driven by a surge in knife crime. Of the 47 murders in London so far this year, 31 have been committed with knives.

If you were unarmed, would you rather face someone with a knife or a gun?

I encountered more violence and fear of violence in 6 weeks in the UK than I ever have in the US.
What was particularly strange to me was the way people in "nice neighborhoods" feared burglary.

Perhaps you are sleeping and a burglar enters your home.

If I'm asleep then it wouldn't matter if he has a knife, a gun or a baseball bat. If I hear someone break into my home and it wakes me up then I'll grab the gun beside my bed. What is the point of this hypothetical?

You misunderstand certain basic facts about criminals

When it comes to innocent victims being attacked the criminals are not generally vicious killers.
    They're not Omars

    Most criminals are cowards.
Any hint that things could possibly go sour and they will gtfo.

In my experience increasing the danger to criminals by allowing the public to carry weapons is worth it.

Does anyone think that the profiling of London as a lawless and dangerous place could serve some purpose? What possible purpose could it serve? Hmm? Do you think it would be a less attractive place to flee to if you imagine it is likely that you will face the same sorts of criminal violence that you are already experiencing in your destitute corner of the world?

And do you think perhaps, amplifying this through mainstream journalism, which leads to its own special spike in social media, highlighted (I thought more interestingly) by a recent police chief, will result in more criminals killing one another? If more criminals kill one another does that mean there are as many criminals to commit crimes? Perhaps there are a few innocent bystanders, who are liable to be welfare claimants or who work for a meager pittance within the social provisions sectors, what sort of impact do you believe that will have on the economy?

Do any of the people involved in these crimes, or who are liable to be victims of these crimes, vote Conservative? I'm sure the great british Conservative party if it has any ideological trappings what so ever holds fast to the idea that you let the "perishers" go their own way, while broadcasting their story far and wide as a cautionary tale for elites and making the place a little less attractive to the "welfare tourists" of lore and legend.

    "News" as they say.
