Are you referring to Google+? If not, I'm confused.

    Google.

The progress of information technology always favors the pattern of globalization. Facebook is big, but so was AOL... and why is AOL not around anymore? Once DSL became common, more of the typical desktop user's experience was globalized (which is a fancy way of saying they spent more time on the internet than playing solitaire) and the AOL platform was left in the dust.

Think of it this way... Facebook is a critical part of internet socialization and profiling, but it is not critical to using the internet itself. You're here aren't you? Now tell me, how'd you find this place... Google or Facebook?

Google. If their investments in space exploration and asteroid mining bear fruit Google won't just dominate the planet, it could start to dominate the entire Solar System and beyond. Google with its Googol colonies. Perhaps the residents of neigbouring space colonies will use Facebook, but then what if they use Twitter? Facebook has its Cathage but Google is the unchallenged empire.

This is why I was wondering if @sleuthiness meant to type Google+ instead of Google.

Google and Facebook are not comparable, but Google+ and Facebook certainly are.

    Amazon.
All for ourselves, and nothing for other people, seems, in every age of the world, to have been the vile maxim of the masters of mankind.
Chapter IV, p. 448. - Adam Smith, Book 3, The Wealth of Nations

whether or not you credit psychoanalysis itself, the fact remains that we all must, to the greatest extent possible, understand one another's minds as our own; the very survival of humanity has always depended on it. - Open Culture
