fuck meh. there are some cool people and places here but also some shitty ones. i've never lived anywhere else, so i can't really judge, but i'd be very open to moving to another country if it was convenient. it's not like i got to choose the perfect country for me, i was just born here. i'm not particularly attached.

I look forward to you getting the opportunity to try another country on for size.

i mean, i said i would if it was convenient. which it probably never will be because i'm not rich. and i'm not saying i hate america, but it just seems irrational to be proud of a whole country like that. city, i can understand, but the usa is too big and diverse for me to want to claim the whole thing. especially certain states

This is a much more federalist tune than you were singing in the Texas education thread.

I'm bummed today because my city's attempt this morning to break the world record of most people high-fiving simultaneously failed. But I'll probably cheer up when I go watch things esplode later.

You never liked the songs I sing anyway, so why are you even listening to my music.

If I were you I would have changed the station long ago.

My appreciation of states rights isn't mutually exclusive of my understanding of the duties and the fundamental justness of a central government.

Yes. Like Appalachia, the coastal south, rural New England, or even western NY.

You can't expect people to love their nation if they live in a shitty locality like California (I think I remember she was from Oakland).

    As Edmund Burke observed:
To be attached to the subdivision, to love the little platoon we belong to in society, is the first principle (the germ as it were) of public affections. It is the first link in the series by which we proceed towards a love to our country and to mankind. The interests of that portion of social arrangement is a trust in the hands of all those who compose it; and as none but bad men would justify it in abuse, none but traitors would barter it away for their own personal advantage.
"You know, with Hitler, the more I learn about that guy, the more I don't care for him."
    Norm MacDonald
