Yes, there are strict rules while conducting psychotherapy with a psychopath. The main one being; do not turn anything it into a competition. Because not only will it be impossible to remain professional, but you will lose.

Sociopaths are basically the same as patients with narcissistic personality disorder in therapy. Cognitive behavioral therapy have proven effective with these types of diagnoses. NPD is however slightly lighter to deal with. Hence NPD is a diagnosis in it self and psychopathy/sociopathy is a syndrome of which NPD is a symptom.
