    Default Maxims and sayings

Does anyone have any favourite political maxims or sayings and would you like to post or discuss them?

A couple which I've been thinking about lately, include "Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose" (which I think is a line of lyrics from a country song), "The biker fraternity are the last free individuals on earth" (read that on the fly leaf of a book, since I'd been thinking about the other line it chimed) and "Nothing is provided free, its just at no additional cost" (which is from a book on marketing and advertising and about magazines giving free stuff away).

NB Mods if this is too much like a blog post then delete the thread and I'll repost some place else.
All for ourselves, and nothing for other people, seems, in every age of the world, to have been the vile maxim of the masters of mankind.
Chapter IV, p. 448. - Adam Smith, Book 3, The Wealth of Nations

whether or not you credit psychoanalysis itself, the fact remains that we all must, to the greatest extent possible, understand one another's minds as our own; the very survival of humanity has always depended on it. - Open Culture

“Dissent is the highest form of patriotism.” - Quote from Howard Zinn
“Our country is not the only thing to which we owe our allegiance. It is also owed to justice and to humanity. Patriotism consists not in waving the flag, but in striving that our country shall be righteous as well as strong.” - Quote from James Bryce
Masquerading as a normal person day after day is exhausting.
