    Default The 1960's Living History

The 1960s were the decade of the dawn of the Beatles, the flower power movement, CND marches, Anti war protests, woodstock, the Purfumo affair, the outing of British spys etc...

In the UK this decade marks our population peak (althoug the last 18 months may outstrip that) and the dawing of generations X (in astrology terms this is Pluto/Uranus in Virgo more on that later).

The purpose of this thread is to share music from that decade, lyrics, news items, personal recollections, fashions and trends, anything you think is typical of the era. Think wide and allow yourself a bit of creative freedom. Try and bring the decade to life.

    Enjoy sharing....

The 1960s also mark the boom of Bossa Nova, a cool branch of jazz.
My favorite, and definitely one of the most famous Bossa Nova artists, is Stan Getz. Two of his hit renditions from this era are "The Girl from Ipanema" and "Desafinado." A taste for those who want something cool, classy, and refined.

    [excerpted from an old post...]

1960 - 1970: Camelot begins... and ends. LBJ starts a war on poverty. Bull Connor turns the dogs on kids in Birmingham, MLK has a dream, Civil Rights and Voting Rights are signed. We get caught in a jungle, college kids worry they'll get drafted and decide to start a "revolution." Hippies head to San Fran or party at Woodstock, King and Kennedy are killed 2 months apart, Richard Daley goes up against Abbie Hoffman, and Dick Nixon goes to the White House. Oh, and we become the first nation to put a man on the moon.
