This will go a *long* way. It seems possible to me, to hold politicians accountable - if they can't give a source (e.g. if they pull improvised lies out of their ass), then they should have to go on record saying they got it wrong. The public gobbles up misinformation, and forcing the questionable stuff through a court of law might slow the spread. Social norms used to keep this in check relatively well. But things went downhill fast after Sarah Palin's completely fabricated claim about Democrat "death camps" for elderly people - there were no severe consequences, and in less than 10-ish years it's turned into open season. So I think this would be immeasurably helpful to contain the conspiracies, and the rise of shitheads like MJT or Boeber.

Over time I had some posts that are talking about how there is much wider picture in all of this. For example here we imported all kinds of nonsense over the internet from US, stuff like anti-vaxx movement, abortion debate ... etc. Which is exactly why I dare to be "openly biased" in regard to American politics. Since I have a horse in this race and I am a part of this game in the big picture. That is also why I give my government open hands to threat this as a threat to the country. Especially since in this pandemic all of this is indeed concrete threat that is killing our people.

I think everyone is familiar with just how far one can get with incompetence and authoritarian government. Just like in the US, do you really think there would be half a MILLION people dead here without incompetence and authoritarian government in power?
