But there is something that sticks out to me in all of this.

The right constantly claims that left run cities are a mess and "shit-holes". But through that they are indirectly making a case that America lost it's leading position in the world. I mean the US evidently didn't become global superpower due to the Wyoming, Kansas, Alabama and West Virginia. Therefore this argument is indeed opening a can of worms. Therefore: Is US no more a global super power or this entire narrative doesn't stick to the degree some people think ?

They can't think that. As in it is impossible to their square up with their narrative, their brains would melt. Did you see Trump's second term "agenda"? It's loaded with bullshit like teaching American exceptionalism or making allies pay their fair share. Of what? Anyway what I mean is, we are partially here BECAUSE of teaching American exceptionalism as an inalienable right. Like you don't have to do anything exceptional, just be American. It's stupid.

The rest of the world will move on and to a degree they have, minus the US. The right is ok with that because they've been told about the globalization boogieman for decades.

I also notice that the left run shithole cites pearl clutching is absolutely never followed by the shithole states.

The state with the highest crime rate is - Alaska.

Alaska has the highest crime rate in the United States of 885 crimes per 100,000 people. The state's rate of sexual assault is 161.9 incidents per 1000,000 people, nearly four times the national rate. The most common violent crime reported in Alaska is aggravated assault, followed by rape.

Wanna do homicide rate?

Louisiana (12.4 per 100,000 people)
Missouri (9.8 per 100,000 people)
Nevada (9.1 per 100,000 people)
Maryland (9 per 100,000 people)
Arkansas (8.6 per 100,000 people)
Alaska (8.4 per 100,000 people)
Alabama (8.3 per 100,000 people)
Mississippi (8.2 per 100,000 people)
Illinois (7.8 per 100,000 people)
South Carolina (7.8 per 100,000 people)

2 out of the 10 are Dems. The rest are Republican with GOP legislatures. So much for that law and order argument. Nearly all of this problem is economic/poverty driven but that's obvious to anyone paying attention.

Well the cynical side of me of me really thinks that blue cities could do a much better job. However pushing this narrative to this degree indeed opens the question is the US as a whole a failed state at this point. Therefore ironically the military spending in Europe is going up at this point but by good margin not for the reasons US would want. Since is obvious that relying too much on US at this point isn't that smart strategy. Especially since it isn't even certain that there will be US few years down the road at this rate. This is exactly why EU army was founded last year.

I didn't see the official agenda but I know the general talking points.

I would be far more interested in a Don Jr/Hunter Biden debate. Or Ivanka. These dipshits are apparently the next generation GOP, let's see it. Hunter Biden is a philandering crackhead but I don't know that he is a grifting twat on the level of the Trump children - I will laugh at the first person dumb enough to put Hunter Biden and nepotism in a sentence like the Trump's could ever get a job as anything but a family parasite.

I really don't care about anyone else debating, including Harris. We've listened to years of Trump's bombastic stupid - don't care to hear any more and I'm apathetic to hearing Biden. I lol at most things Nancy Pelosi says, they're nearly all perfunctory.

I guess I would hope Biden put that aside and would be there to display his policies. There are some people who rely on debates and information given from those sort of questions to make a decision on who they're voting for.

With everything going on, I mean, I watched Hilary vs. Trump debates. Trump said little to nothing but I got to hear more of the ideas from the other side still on important issues. But one said I have a plan and the other didn't really resonate one, 4 years later, still think he's pulling things out of his ass daily, and it's more likely than not I'm gonna end up voting for Biden and telling my family I voted for Trump so I'm not walking on eggshells for 4 more years about how I admitted I voted for Hilary.

I live with them and they're gonna get mad if I don't.

my family is occasionally slightly screwy. I have to learn to navigate a current minefield I didn't have the previous years of my life. My grandpa jabs me a lot for my vote (my mom doesn't really judge as much), and it gets annoying that I cannot suggest both sucked since I voted for Hilary. but he also said don't go 3rd party like I had planned because "I'm wasting the vote" and all the months I did of political research into who I was voting for became I had to choose shit vs. shit. All the polarization and judgment has really just made me want to bury my head in the sand over any political matter, but at the same time I like coming over here. Particularly, Coriolis and ceecee are levelheaded enough to not make this hostile, explain POV to me, fill in gaps that are sometimes missed by both sides to explain a matter to me and encourage a bit more critical thinking. So shout out for giving me food for thought.

And I have you here to remind me how stupid it really is I have to deal with this anyway. :D

and I appreciate those who've explained a bit more, even with Jaguar, because I actually had no idea Joe Biden had brain surgeries. I have an instructor who had similar circumstances and she was still a great teacher even if an occasional blurb or two occurred. That gives me a bit more security that my vote would really go to Joe Biden, not necessarily a hand select processor the DNC had in mind.

They tend to sound like theyre just mad people in general, if it's not this, it'll be something else. So I just wouldnt tell them. What is life without mystery I'd say, and then smile quietly to myself. But then, I'm probably empty inside.

A pretty good Vox piece that explains why even the best fact-checking won't make a dent in a debate with Trump: The RNC weaponized exhaustion The sheer volume of lies and illegal behavior from Trump and the Republicans is what allowed them to get away with it.

Writing honestly about the RNC requires centering the dishonesty. But adequately describing the sheer breadth and brazenness of the lying that was on display these past four days would take volumes. And after a certain point, the whole thing reaches diminishing returns: Some depressing political science research suggests that pointing out when Trump is lying doesn’t actually change the way voters feel about him.

And that’s the dark brilliance of the RNC, and maybe the entire Trump presidency. If you just lie and break legal rules frequently enough and brazenly enough, the sheer volume of misconduct will overwhelm the systems that are designed to check them.

"Keep America great" would be much better and logical choice, however in current situation that would look like irony or sarcasm.

We have yet to actually be great. As it stands, I live in a country of alcoholics who refuse to admit they have a drinking problem.

Thanks but I think Biden can showcase policy outside of debating. I think the RNC and the DNC were theater just like debates are. Trump turned them into that in 2016 so, why bother?

I was really moreso being sarcastic because the alcohol problems are far worse there.

I'm not sure we're on the same page. Germany is nothing like the U.S. (aren't they lucky!) and I was using this: "I live in a country of alcoholics who refuse to admit they have a drinking problem" as a metaphor for my country's behavior. So I would disagree that the "alcohol" problems are worse in Germany since they don't behave, as a people, like the U.S. does. I've long thought a raging alcoholic was a pretty good metaphor for my country, teeming with its illicit addictions and denials of what it is addicted to, if that makes sense. So when you see me posting from here on out about "fucking alcoholics", think metaphor. Not literal alcoholics.

I suspect a lot of Trump supporters have only been exposed to manipulated footage of Biden through Fox (et al) and Trump's retweets, so exposure to unmanipulated footage might be helpful. Unless of course they only follow the debate through Fox (et al) Cliff Notes, which gives them a chance to attach manipulated footage to the summary.

In my book this whole election is basically coming down to "Will the democrats be able to penetrate the bubble that is around certain parts of the population ?". Be it pictures, COVID, twitter, youtube, geopolitics, random facts .... etc. If they take scalpels and start dissecting to the bone in front of the cameras they will win. However if campaign stays on catchy statements, "It is a hoax", simple patriotism and judging things at face value Trump will probably win again. Therefore it all comes down to narrative/content, which will in the end define turnout (which is very likely to define the winner).

In the "Fox & Friends" and "Hannity" alternative universe, the rioting is still a present-tense threat and could restart at any time. This is contradicted by every news report from every other outlet. The story now is about peaceful, powerful, sustained protest all across the country. But "riot porn" video is irresistible to Fox's producers and hosts, even though the video is out of date now.

Sometimes the video has a little label in the corner with the date, like "May 28" for fires in Minneapolis, but not always. And if you think the label is sufficient, you're kidding yourself. The video is often accompanied by talk of "unrest," violence and inner-city chaos. One of the banners on Sean Hannity's show Tuesday night said "GROWING LAWLESSNESS IN MAJOR CITIES." His show, and others, have been blurring the unrest seen in the wake of George Floyd's death with other, generalized types of crime. Statements like "we have to restore law and order" have implied that law and order has not been restored.

Anyone ever wonder where all those THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HEADING FOR THE BORDER TO INVADE OUR COUNTRY AND RAPE OUR CITIZENS went? Well, what came and went were the midterm elections. No need for the fake headlines any longer or the troops who were used like cheap whores— sent to the Mexican border for nothing more than a political ruse.
