Hint: If you don't test there will not be that much cases detected by default.

My beef. There's not enough testing going on and not enough quality tests to do it. There's no excuse for this not to be a top priority. This virus and its variants are not going anywhere. When the numbers show testing on a steep increase and cases on a steep decrease, we'll be getting somewhere.

True, but the bottom line was that obvious lack of testing messes up the picture, it wasn't really about why this is happening.
However the facts is that for the large chunks of the world this map doesn't really work. Since in a way they are black box and we don't know what is really going there pandemic wise. Especially since many of those countries are ultra young in population and therefore they probably have plenty of asymptomatic people/cases.

I heard today that India might have reached or be close to herd immunity with lower than expected losses. Possibly a mixture of successful measures and a very young population.

If we consider population density and pretty bad general sanitary situation there the virus probably spread pretty fast there. However very young average age and warmer climate probably made things much more simple than in some other places. Also for months they didn't test at all and even now they are still pretty low in per capita tests. Therefore it is hard to say how good this is vs. how badly recorded this is.
Especially since democratic standards also aren't top notch.

At least by available data it seems that globally the pandemic is significantly slowing down over the last few weeks. Clearly the steepest fall since the beginning.

Are more people going to die of hunger caused by the pandemic measures than of the actual virus?

People die of capitalism poverty and neoliberalism a lot, and in that case, we shall research for a capitalism and neoliberalism vaccine and send real-effective chloroquines to cure these diseases, rather than criticizing "the pandemic measures" that just exposed the fragility.

As Vaccinations Ramp Up, Testing Declines in the U.S.
The trend suggests testing has reached a ceiling in the U.S. at a time when scientists say the nation should be conducting millions more tests a day.

My point, exactly.

Because they have not tested on kids or not tested extensively. I assume the idiotic logic is that kids haven't been in school, there is no rush but they aren't putting teachers as a higher priority either. Why? Because this country is a a semi-failed state that's had austerity and trickle down bullshit policy around for the last 50 years - these are the results of that.

Richard Horton, Editor-in-Chief of The Lancet cautions:

The case against science is straightforward: much of the scientific literature, perhaps half, may simply be untrue. Afflicted by studies with small sample sizes, tiny effects, invalid exploratory analyses, and flagrant conflicts of interest, together with an obsession for pursuing fashionable trends of dubious importance, science has taken a turn towards darkness.
...
Can bad scientific practices be fixed? Part of the problem is that no-one is incentivised to be right. Instead, scientists are incentivised to be productive and innovative.

Thought:

If one rejects Russian or Chinese vaccine does that technically make you anti-vaxxer of some sort ?

Probably not. Same reason one would say, reject Chinese electronics / prefer electronics that weren't made there, not meaning that the individual is anti that product. Personally, I just want a higher assurance on quality and safety. Rejecting a lack of it isn't rejecting the vaccine itself.
