Gift:"What is your special gift in life? What are you a natural at and when performing you don't feel like your working rather you are doing something constructive that gives you a measure of satisfaction"

"To me life is all about finding oneself. It is the road taken to find your authentic self and remove all the distractions and false ego goals that where projected unto you by society and parental expectations. It is a journey to find the authentic self and with it your innate natural gifts that where meant to be highlighted and expanded upon. It is in reaching your true inner self and doing your gift in life that truly makes life worth living. You are now not a fake imitation of following externally imposed expectations.

Rather you have found true self and are true to your unique individuality performing your latent gifts for your true self and contributing towards society and your fellow man.
If one pursues self awareness, it is also a path to choose authenticity alongside transparency. This instead of hiding behind societal masks. This only serves to cover up a false ego. One can not find true self if one is constantly trying to live up to societies, peers and parental expectations.

One must have the courage to break free and discover one's hidden latent talents and gift. We have to find our own meaning in life. To my mind is first the discovery of your true self hidden under lies, illusions and expectations. The next step is to find one's special calling, gift and talents. The third step is to juggle pursuing your calling versus being susceptible to the worlds illusions. What are the world's illusions? Things that we as a society pay homage to such as beauty, fame, power and wealth.

The cause of our fooling ourselves are denial, rationalization, emotional reasoning and blind spots. None of these things is in itself bad. It's only when they are pursued in an out of balanced manner.
I believe each of us has a gift. Doing this gift, one achieves a sense of happiness as well as utter timelessness. Finding one's gift will allow the spirit the freedom to soar. This is what life this life is. Find your gift and thus you find yourself.

I happen to have a penchant for writing as well as an oratory skill when giving speeches. Doing your gift to benefit the world. When following this path one reaches a heightened state of consciousness called flow. Now each of us are interrelated with every other life form. Combining our gifts can also produce the added benefit of a byproduct called synergy or the synergism of which the sum is greater than the parts. This experience is rapture, which is beyond heavenly words to describe.

Only for one moment do we feel like we have actually experienced a little slice of heaven on earth. It is confounding as it is in effect and is beyond description. Too many times we may ignore the inner universe, searching for peace, as well happiness when these lay within us. If one are miserable inside, then all the money, riches, all the members of the opposite sex or whichever sex one is attracted to, fame, material possessions, food, and travel will not soothe the soul. Most certainly not for long. It is a search for inner peace. This inner universe is so crucial.

This is why one needs to develop self-esteem and a healthy self-concept to truly know and acknowledge the beauty of the world. This is why for greatest harmony to occur; both inner and outer realities need be balanced. Listen to this inner voice. I call it the universal consciousness. It is a duty of ours in finding that special gift for it’s what life is supposed to be like. It’s a special gift for our spirit. Find your gift and thus you find yourself. Doing your gift to benefit the world we live in. We reach a heightened state of consciousness, ca magical flow of human consciousness in which one is in unity with all of reality."

I'm not sure what mine is exactly. I suppose I'm resistant to pinning it down because what if I'm wrong and have misread myself? And I also have several ideas and they all genuinely seem good. I suppose the one that fits best is my open minded nature. At least for now. It's proved invaluable in dealing with and connecting with people. A lot of the experiences I hold dear have resulted in some way, shape, or form from my open-mindedness.

While this is gonna come off arrogant, I'm actually good at alot of things I try my hands at. I don't think I have just one "gift". I have many. The problem I have is lack of specialization, I try one thing then get tired of it and wanna try another. Since I'm good at alot of these things, it never feels like I have to acheive mastery. Yet a career and a legacy demands specialization so it's ironic not exploiting any gift because it never leads to concretization of my abilities.

I am aware of this, and in the process of bettering my skills in a few domains. I am trying to get a good education, because I know how important that is in order to do something interesting.

Some skills I tried my hand at and have gotten positive feedback from others on:

-musical ear
-writing
-visual arts (painting, drawing)
-performing arts (acting, singing, rap)
-knowledge of more than one language

But I am a dabbler, not a master at any of them. :( Professionally, I wish to continue my training as a librarian since I started already and I believe in what I do. That will be professionally, but I also want to use my capacity in the creative fields to do something there, even if I can't make a living off of it. So long as it enchants someone's world, I am happy.

I don't have one. There are things I do now that I enjoy and get into 'flow state' with, like coding or getting deep into a hands on project but I don't have any illusions. I remember learning these things kicked my ass at first. Maybe I was 11 when I started or 26, but nothing came easy to me, but I enjoyed the challenges and they got easier. I don't believe in a "true self" the way you describe it, people have some innate talents and drives that give one a bit of a head start, but ultimately you build your true self, not without pain.

I wish I could do this coding that you speak of.

Hmm... there's a few I can list ("jack of all trades, master of none"):

- Music (singing, being able to hear a tune and play it back on the piano)
- Writing (mostly freestyle poetry, but also spiritual/philosophical rambling)
- Programming (I can pick up new languages with relative ease)
- Multilingual (Hindi/Urdu, Spanish, little bit of French)
- Reiki healing

This is the best way to be.

"What is your special gift in life?"

Your question invited a maze of brief hesitation.

Isn't the word "special" in itself but a way for the false ego to assert self-gratification instead of being grateful for everything good and bad alike?

If I had to ask my ego, it would answer "My dad can beat your dad".
I am not going to ask my honest to a fault ego what it finds compelling to drive it through the course of life though.

The authentic-self encapsulates all what we are as a collective consciousness, good and bad, and it is the true shaper of a healthy self-esteem beyond all forms of sublimation or discrimination. It puts us in a state where there are no feelings of superiority, nor feelings of inferiority. We exist in a state of interiority.

My gift is a combo, an explosive cocktail of mental traits. I am curious, intelligent, quick-witted, adaptable and analyzing everything. The result gives a faculty to learn anything very quickly and I have an amazing general knowledge. I can put myself in the shoes of others, understand their motives, what they love, what they hate.

If the meaning of the question is whether I am inclined to be a specialist, then yes, I am one. I don't believe the orientation is a disadvantage, because all believing that would accomplish would be self-defeating, but that said I strongly don't believe that generalists are at a disadvantage.

Talent is another thing that probably exists to some degree, but thinking about it has never done me any good, and it's better to consider my choices as if it doesn't exist - my skill on the ground of course exists, but it just doesn't matter where it comes from, and if I start to think that there is a where in the absence of real skill, that just isn't good for anything yet. I can make it so, but right now, it's not.

If I am good at something, though, I think it is because my attraction to it was great enough to drive me to put significantly more of myself into it than is normally necessary to live. For me to be a specialist means that I feel that attraction to few things. I don't necessarily fall harder than people who are more spread out in their interests, just for fewer.

Unrelatedly, I have a tendency to take the attraction very personally, which is why one may find the previous paragraphs to have an intentional push toward cold utility - that's right, I am pushing back on my authentic feelings when I talk about it like that. In reality, I get a lot more emotional infatuation and affection wrapped up in my attractions, and I've grown cautious with expressing those. That is because while the existence of those emotions is a truth, just like in a romantic context, those emotions don't have a very strong allegiance to truth - which means not that they're shallow or deceiving by nature, just that facts don't influence their course much, so a check is warranted of whether they've hit or blindly missed the truth. I may express them, but only once I've done that and am confident in what I have seen. My true loves deserve the the dignity, and I do have a couple - a couple of hits.

All of that may make me sound like the very emotionally calculating kind of feeler, but I'm really really not - my couple of passions are actually among the very few areas in which I don't shoot from the hip.

I would like to say jack-of-all-trades, but in reality I'm only good at artistic stuff and pretty much suck at everything else. Therefore I wouldn't consider that very well-rounded. Ideally, I would like to be good at many things, but also a master at something. However, when it all comes down to it, I think being a grand master at something is the key to prosperity. Some of us are lucky enough to find that something in life that seemingly comes most natural to us, but then it takes effort and dedication to harness it even further into something worthwhile. Yet that could just be our ticket to something greater.

I am not sure I have a single particular 'gift' that stands out or that sets me apart from others. It's probably a combo of things.

Growing up I was good at a lot of things, some that I enjoyed, some that I didn't really enjoy, and being good at a lot of things -- able to excel -- didn't really help me figure out what I wanted to do. However I wasn't a 'genius' at any one thing; just able to be above average or 'talented' in many different things. Academics and music, even ballet for a while, is what took up my childhood and teen years; add also into that birdwatching.

As a middle-aged adult I guess compared to all of my peers, what probably stands out in my personality is my sense of beauty / noting beauty around me/seeing things (particularly living things) that other people don't even notice, and making that a priority (in a sense of creating an ambiance), and also my link to the natural world and awareness of it / general knowledge (and some specialization in knowledge).
