"What is the problem with ego?"

“Here is something else to ponder. In developing as a child one must learn to have an ego and develop a sense of self identity in addition to self-esteem in the world we live in. As an adult on the path, or I should say a path, for there are many paths to the top of the mountain, we must learn to let go of our ego's and transcend both it as well as our fears. We must learn to let go of defensiveness and listen with an open heart, to be receptive, warm and open. We need to learn transparency and openness in order to heal.

I think it can be thought of like our turtles crawling to the sea. It’s the phenomenon of a self-actualization. We strive and we grow, ever on toward new discoveries, new knowledge and a deeper and truer love of one's self, others and the greater reality we live in.”

The problem with ego is cultural appropriation. There's nothing at all wrong with learning about and having a frame of reference for cultures. It's the adoption and put into practice that's problematic.

“ It is part of my life path to outgrow the ego. If one is triggered then one's self esteem is threatened. It is a false self and holding unto illusion. I seek to handle each situation with reason and compassion. In this way one can grow. To be susceptible to triggers and acting out one stays n an infantile position of non-growth. Only by taking the high road can we live up to our moral potential and grow.

"Ego-death is an ego driven concept" - Alan Watts.

I don't think one can transcend an ego. Intuitively I think it is in-built.

Instead I would say recognise where it is needed more and where it is needed less in an individual's life.

hmm...perhaps once you've outgrown the ego, you might begin to work on outgrowing the spiritual ego. :newwink:

My basic premise is to share what I think, feel and believe with others in harmony. I constantly reevaluate my beliefs as I progress on the path of life.

“Not only do we have a material ego wis focused on the external such as money, health and romance. We also have a spiritual ego which can disguise itself as enlightenment, all in the effort to keep the true Self hidden away deep within.” Unknown
