Do you see a general increase in dogmatic self-rightousness?

Do you see a general increase in dogmatic self-rightousness? People who act like they are smarter than you and like they know all the answers? People who want to control you and make you conform to their ideals?

I think the perception of increases in such things is largely due to the information age making it easy to do so for people, thus making these things much more visible. Not that the phenomenons themselves are actually increasing. I think these people have always existed, but are heard more now on account for there beng a medium for them to let it all out.

Psychopathic controllers are addicted to control, become habituated and so must keep on increasing their control to get the same reward.

So eventually controllers have nothing left but violence, and so resort to domestic violence.

Yeah, I agree with that, on a lot of different topics, including the incidence of crime, its often not that it has spiked or increased but that it is more visible because of the information age.

Although that said, I do agree that what Fromm described in The Fear of Freedom, could easily repeat itself, he described in it and another book on Weimer Germany about how authoritarian personalities started trending. Its possible. The net is a sort of Duning-Kreuger laboratory too, a lot of over confident types, or at least over compensating types, with access to a little information, enough so they think, to trump things in their day to day interactions.

No. You simply hear/read/see more of it now.

It seems that each generation begins anew and must relearn all the wise sayings. It is only by incorporating a deeper understanding of underlying truths that we can become self aware. If one does not possess wisdom then they are as deaf men hearing only sound but not understanding the message on a deeper level. As for self righteousness it has gone on through the ages.

"Alarming is how fast we can revert to a bestial complex. But a first evolution must essentially let and rid our self in dogma. Learn critical thinking plus true empathy. In this way only I see movement spiritually as well in our emotional faculties. Indoctrination into dogma comes from multiple sources. Dogma conceivably can occur in a family's system of beliefs as well mores. It also comes from another from another direction like patriotism and religious beliefs, all of this before the person possesses or can be taught critical thinking.

"The self-righteous who held under the sway of anger are wrong. We can never learn or know too much. He who is on a path realizes the more they know, the more ignorant they realize they truly are. One who gets secure in his or her own position is not challenged, and that is a shame. For that is when growth stands still and one stagnates in their own moral self-righteousness. The self-righteous have started wars. What are we to do? Stop being self-righteous and use reason instead

The view of the human person who is wise consistently changes from say 18, 25, early thirties and beyond. I say I will learn until my last dying breathes. Provided I am cognizant of course. It is a journey. We continually grow and expand. We can never learn or know too much. He who is on a path realizes the more they know, the more ignorant they realize they truly are. One who gets secure in his or her own position is not challenged, and that is a shame.

For that is when growth stands still and one stagnates in their own moral self-righteousness. I hope to be cognizant of my abilities and continue learning to my last breath. Here is something else to ponder. In developing as a child one must learn to have an ego and develop a sense of self identity in addition to self-esteem in the world in which we live in. As an adult, on the path, or I should say a path, for there are many paths to the top of the mountain, we must learn to let go of our ego's and transcend both it as well fear."

I think it's partly due to the internet and the ability of anyone to become or feign becoming an expert, authority or guru, whereas it was much more difficult for individuals to do this before the worldwide web, when people actually had to do some research and couldn't just build themselves up as experts after reading a few wikis. Not to say charismatic charlatans and fakes haven't existed prior to the internet and social media, but those same types can more quickly access and influence a greater number of people--imagine if Jim Jones had been alive in the 21st century!
