    Default Is patriarchy defensible?

Or even matriarchy? What do you think are the relationship of each to each other and human history? Do you think that one predates or postdates the other or ought to? Or that they have everywhere and always been in existence as an actuality or potentiality?

Is each just the shadow or "other" with which contrast or comparison, usually negative, is made?
All for ourselves, and nothing for other people, seems, in every age of the world, to have been the vile maxim of the masters of mankind.

whether or not you credit psychoanalysis itself, the fact remains that we all must, to the greatest extent possible, understand one another's minds as our own; the very survival of humanity has always depended on it. - Open Culture

Ideally, a society would be neither patriarchy nor matriarchy, but value the wisdom and contributions of male and female equally. In practice, the behavior and consequences of the two gender-biased systems have been observably different, with patriarchy generally promulgating more violence and intolerance, and making more us/them distinctions, even dividing the human being (body-vs-spirit-type distinctions).
I've been called a criminal, a terrorist, and a threat to the known universe. But everything you were told is a lie. The truth is, they've taken our freedom, our home, and our future. The time has come for all humanity to take a stand...

Mmm patrairchy imo exists because it confers some advantage just like everything else (this is not to say it may or may not have corresponding weaknesses as well). Perhaps its time is over, perhaps not.
For all that we have done, as a civilization, as individuals, the universe is not stable, and nor is any single thing within it. Stars consume themselves, the universe itself rushes apart, and we ourselves are composed of matter in constant flux. Colonies of cells in temporary alliance, replicating and decaying and housed within, an incandescent cloud of electrical impulses. This is reality, this is self knowledge, and the perception of it will, of course, make you dizzy.
