I am honestly somewhat nervous about morality based on divine authority.

This is to misunderstand the divine MP, this age has no concept of the divinity at all, no proper concept at least.

Invocing the divine because no other account or reasonable explanation is possible is lousy, the divine is something which shouldnt be invoked at all, it should be obvious and self-evident and even beautiful. For me God really is the bottom line or final destination, that is divinity, and all my thinking and feeling in some way corresponds to that.

However, I, at a time, was closer to the agnostic or bold atheistic positions in this thread, it was, for me I can honestly say, an age and stage thing and I perceived religion and tradition and God very differently to I do today. They where synonymous with other things to what I consider them to be synonymous with today. I suspect that this sort of reckoning, the different meanings attributed to words even, has a lot to do with disputation and not simply in matters of belief/non-belief. Pretty much any topic.

What is this, the post-about-why-you're-not-religious-and-be-excoriated-by-Lark thread?

I do not "have religion" because, honestly, I feel no emotional compulsion to believe any of that shit (and have never done.) To me, then, religion is no more than the sum of its political instantiation across history. It has no value except when it's used as a vehicle for (good or bad) political action, which it very often is.

Okay, but what if it isn't?
