Lets try and come up with a clear definition of religion that could encompass nearly all of the worldviews that are conventionally considered 'religious'.

I think what you might be looking for is a criterion of demarcation, similar to falsification in science or consistency in mathematics. Exactly what is it that demarcates religion from other human endevours? what makes it different?

Essentially we shouldnt deem all worldviews as either religious or non-religious as this would be a false dichotomy. Religiosity should be assessed on a continuum. The question that we should ask here is what exactly religiosity could be? And how much of it must a worldview have in order for us to regard it as a religion of its own? So I dont think that we could break it down into the entity of how there are religious worldviews and non-religious and then just brainstorm about how the former is different from the latter as all worldviews have religiosity to them.
